Anyone know a rough cost I would be looking at to get a new Temp sensor and Thermostat fitted.

    Thanks Chris.

Lol that would probably be a good idea, il have a word in the morning I hope im not opening a can of worms, last time I had engine problems on my old one it turned into a nightmare running rich, misfiring on cylinder 3, injector exploding and ended up costing me over £1000, fingers crossed for just the sensors.

That fault is 99% related to a duff coolant temp sensor. Buy a genuine green one from Audi/VW/TPS /Seat, & change your self for £34

Hi really, thats put a different view to it, is it that common then for that to fail. How easy is it to change I have minimal to no mechanic knowledge.

    Thanks Chris.

TBH in my experience the Thermostat is more likely than the CTS.

You can often tell simply by how the temperature gauge behaves. Thermostat will allow the engine to run cool, ie the guage will never get to 90c, until your stuck in traffic or sat idling on the drive. If the guage often sits below 90, and climbs if left idling for 10mins, then i'd be changing the thermostat first.

If the guage quickly comes up to 90c and never moves, then its more likely engine side of the CTS is faulty.

thermostat is quite an easy job. Would give it a go yourself if you have a load of extension bars. 30-45 mins if you have done one before, bit longer if not. Just awkward to get to. Temp sensor is 5 min job

just check comparitive temps in vagcom before condemming the thermostat.
in the CTS there are 2 senders, one for instruments one for ecu..
look at both temps (engine + instruments) when its warmed up and confirm they're the same) If they are, its unlikely to be CTS.. If your temp wavers about or does'nt get to 90, or rises and falls from 90, as confirmed by the engine + instruments reading then it is thermostat

CTS is the cheaper of the 2 to swap out.

Thanks Bill, yeah your right it was showing 90 on the dash but 60-70 on VAG-COM, when left idling still showed 90 but was at 97-99 on the scan. hopefully It will be sorted for AITP now
