Dear all,

This is kenneth from HK. My friend got an Audi A3 2001 1.8T AT lately and we went out to try the car tonight. I push the gear to '1' then step it on a slope(not full throttle), when the rpm climb up to about 4-5000rpm, suddendly a 'boom' sound appear likely from the engine bay and the ESP lights came out. The car could still move but got some 'whistle' sound. Feels like when the turbo kick in, it got such sound and air is leaking from somewhere.

The car didn't really vibrate abnormally when idle, just the 'whistle' sound and feels like lack of power.

Something in the Turbo broken?

I found the link below from this forum. Seems pretty much the same problem.

Any idea? Thanks a lot !!!!

inter cooler pipe i would go for did it on mine down the motorway clip had come off sounded good big whistle lol.

It could very likely be your ESS (engine speed sensor) also, are you getting fault codes P0321 and/or P0322? It will cause the ESP fault as you say and could be causing the whistling also.
