I don't think it will be VAG-COM mate, they don't do a handheld unit to the best of my knowledge and certainly not for £25.

It's more likely to be a code reader. Not much cop usually, it'll reset codes but not be as descriptive or functional as VCDS.

It's quite limited in it's use but if you just want to read the odd code it's acceptable however it will not have anywhere near the functionality of a pukka cable and neither will it carry the support of Ross Tech. It'll work on the 8L etc but not the newer stuff.

A decent setup will pay for itself quite quickly.

The £25 eBay item works fine on my car ( 2000 APY ), the biggest issue is that some of the codes are not listed in the booklet as I found out. It flashed code 01279 the book didn't cover it but thanks to searching this forum I found what the code was, bought the sensor and fixed my abs/ESP problem that I've had for a year lol.

Also worked on my mother in laws 2001 beetle fine.

All that said I'll still be getting full VCDS when I buy a new laptop.

tbh lads i just want to see if /or any fault codes fly up and if so i can take it from there, how hard to use is the VCDS?? if its not then ill just get the disc and give it a whirl.
also dose anyone know if the VCDS is compatible with a mac book??
and dose anyone know the cable code??for an 8l bam?
