chaz - no consolation, but happened to me 2 weeks ago. (see recent thread).

So i know exactly how you feel.

I didnt realise they were so expensive when i bought the car...i was thinking 250 for a pair. but they are 800!! i guess we both found out the hard way.

I decided to fit cheapies as i'm not attaching money to the side of my car for the theiving b*stards to take again.

Sorry again mate.

Getting the doors off is pretty easy - do a search for door panel or something. I broke a few clips but i was doing it in the snow and lost my patience

Note that you may need a driller, grinder, hammer etc to get these aftermarkets to fit well
Other random points.
1) the metal that the origs fitted to are probably pulled out of shape when they were nicked
2) the hole which the bolt fits through for the origs is slightly smaller than the plastic "bolt" on the base plates are slightly to big
3) get some washers
4) you'll have to remove the sponge under the original base plates as the aftermarkets cant cope
5) fit the base plates without the mirror attached to see if you can get them flush..i didnt and wish i had.
6) the base plates are a bit longer than the plastic cover on the inside..annoys me, but i cant do much about it.
7) the company on ebay were great. the first set arrived in 2 days, and were replaced next day because of scratch on the plastic
8) the don't 'need' painting if black is okay.

The better solution would be to find some a3 mirrors from a breakers, but i needed to get my car back on the road ASAP.

Best of luck...

pics - nah they don't look good enough up close!!

I will try to get some done - but i get to work when its dark, and don't get back to my car till its dark again!!

Price: to be honest - it was a figure i read off another post. But at Vagparts they are about 550+VAT. And i wasn't gonna fit them to be stolen again or claim insurance. so i didnt phone audi to confirm the price.

If I had Alu mirrors I think I would be inclined to get them rigged up to the alarm system and get them engraved (The deeper the better) with the car registration or chassis number in a visable place.

The theiving scroats now know there is a market for them and it doesn't help that you can sell them reletively anonymous on sites like ebay!

Perhaps we should all de-bling our cars?

When I was working on the spanners on earth moving equipment and forklifts the first thing we used to do when we got a brand new tool was spray some paint on it, because once it's lost the bling appeal nobody is interested in it.....and when you consider that all of our tools were Snap-on and had the CAT logo on them they were very appealing to people!

So do you think the above will work for your mirrors?
