hi chaps,
sad day yesterday i engine decided to fail in a big way, bottom end bearing are non-existant and crank is totally screwed :(

looking for a bit of help and guidance, i was just going to rebuild it however prices are pretty high, so was thinking of buying a decnet bottom end and refreshing it with new bearings etc...

has anyone got a decnet bottom end or know anyone with one?

please please help me guys :'(

dont know anyone at the minuite but will keep my ears open and ask about for u, if i hear anything i'll PM you, in the mean time good luck :salute:

sorry to hear this fellow.

I'm sure i've seen a BAM engine on Pistonhead for sale fairly cheap aswell.
I'll try and find it for you.

I had a similar issue and chose to simply buy another engine of comparable spec.

Word to the wise is that a lot of the other 1.8T engine have the same internals as the S3. Unfortunately, the APY, AMK and BAM engines fetch far more money than the boggo 1.8T engines, simply because they are 210/225 engines.

When I rebuilt, I couldn't get a reasonably priced 210/225 engine at all, or even a block at a suitable price.

So, after much research, I settled for an AGU lump complete. Same basic engine, 20mm wrist pins etc. Went in and have been in there ever since.

I paid £450 for the engine delivered - a LOT cheaper than anything 210/225 related I could find anywhere.

The post above by S3Dave is an AGU engine, however sounds like she's knackered. Block should be OK though.

DON'T buy an AUM engine - 19mm wrist pins in an S3, you do not want.

Is there a way of checking the oil pick up and then cleaning it? I'm unsure of where it is but I assume the sump?

Only by removing the sump and visually inspecting it. However, this is false economy IMO. You can't get the crap out if very easily, and you never really know how clean it is when you put it back in.

If the sump is coming off, just replace it. Don't mess about with some thing that has such disastrous potential. £14 is nothing. A new crank is.

mine needs servicing soon so ill whip the sump off and change the picup thanks for the heads up and sorry about ur engine mate u wanna try gumtree loot and of course the forums

has anyone done a DIY Baffled sump on here?? if so are there any threading regarding it with measurement etc??

My bottom end went last year and i had it fully rebuilt by a VAG specialist who is my mechanic. He is very well known with the RS guys. I had it all built up again with genuine Audi parts and the turbo was fully rebuilt by CR turbo's with a little tweak. I didn't go down the upgraded internal options as i'm not looking at big turbo power so genuine Audi parts were good enough for me.

what mileage should you change the oil pick up? or just do it anytime?

So you change the Sump + filter, fresh oil you wont get the starvation?

Not the sump, you change/clean the oil pickup pipe that sits in the sump.
