My S3 may be 3 years old now but the interior seems like its held together worse then a 10 year old Escort. (well maybe thats a slight exageration)

I get rattles from the armrest
The passenger door card
The parcel shelf
The glovebox
and the steering column

Admitedly I am REALLY fussy when it comes to rattles and squeeks, and am probably making it sound worse then it actually is, but could it be that the cold weather is making the plastic brittle, or is my S3 turning into a shed ?

Maybe I should buy a BMW /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I get a rattle from the housing on top of the steering column where it meets the instrument display. Its not an S3 (Unfortunatley) but I guess it is much the same. The rear creaks and little when I reverse off the driver and turn the wheels. I think this is something to do with the inner lining of the tailgate being a little loose.

Other than that shes a beauty. If you think yours rattles you should have come out in my old 206!

Oh yeah, the front speakers rattle, but thats cause they are sh*t.

I've got an anoying rattle from the dash somewhere around the stereo and switches.

I had a creak similar to the one you describe Rob, it turned out to be the catched for the rear seat back rest. They just needed lubricating and it's been fine since.

My passenger seat rattles, but I think I know why that is LOL

Oh yeah the drivers door rattles on mine.

I've got loads of rattles.. and I thought Audi cars were supposed to be put together well.

My two most annoying ones are, the one from the passenger seat head rest, and the one from the door card on the passenger side.

No rattles but some squeeks. The driver's seat creaks, as does the clutch. Both started fairly suddenly and sometimes disappear so I blame it on the Weather. Having such badly maintained roads in the UK combined with stiff suspension can't really help the situation!

Have a slight squeak where the CD player console meets the bit above the ashtray (not very technical I know).

Easily cured with a spray of WD40 - this works on most squeaks and some rattles if you can track them down.

My drivers window makes a noise as if it's dropping (it's not, just a poor seal I think) when I hit a bump.

Mines a 2003 model and is rattle/squeak free.

The only thing I can mention is the drivers seat makes a slight creaking sound when I get in and out of the car, but when I'm in it's silence /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

On the other hand.... I do get a slight whistle from the front windscreen at higher speeds. Can't really tell where the wind is whistling from though /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Same in my 2001 facelift S3, oh and the glove box rattles. Also the rear seat but I think that is either the parcel shelf or the seat belt housing arms being shaken by the rear seat?

They are all worse when the weather is colder, once the car warms up they go away.

mine 2001 A3 1.8T has a occasional rattle from the rear possibly the parcel shelf or rear seat area drives me crazy cos cant find anythin obvious will get the rattle police to investigate!!!!! Reading ashs3 reply might be the same area as mine will track the buggar down one day

I'm getting an annoying rattle from the rear/parcel shelf area as well. I've been meaing to get my mate to sit in the back whilst I drive over a bumpy road so we can isolate the source.

My S3 passenger seat rattles aswell. The seat back seems to have quite a bit of play in it. Anyone know if this can be fixed by tightening something up?

Bit of an update on this post!!!

After posting thread about rear boot lights not working decided to climb into boot upside down and fiddle with the bulb found it to be loose in the fitting put it back in correctly and hey presto still NOT working!!! The upshot being though that the rattle I had in the back of the car parcel shelf area that i could not damn well locate has GONE advice to all maybe look if bulb is loose in boot who needs light there anyway prefer not to have the rattle!!!!!

Took mine in for the 80k service plus belt and water pump change - I know I know - should have done it earlier, but now my glove box squeaks - why the hell is that??

I have the mother of all rattles on my 1.8T Quattro!
(1) I get a bit of a clunk/heavy rattle from somewhere underneath when I bounce over potholes at low speed.
(2) After a longer journey I sometimes get a vibration and harsh sensation which seems to come from the transmission tunnel. This is noticeable when pulling away at low speed and I think I can feel vibration coming from transmission tunnel when I put my left hand back and down over it! It goes away at speed.

The clunk over bumps (1) gets much worse when (2) happens.

Beat that!
Suspension, engine mounts, exhaust mounts and anti-roll bars have all checked out OK. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Any ideas?

(I already started a thread http://www.audi-sport.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=158170&an=0&page=0#158170 )

It's completely random!

I had a very irritating rattle from the RHS of the dash behind the clocks somewhere, which has gone since I last cleaned the dash... go figure!

My A3 1.8T Sport, has a rattle around the steering column, I think it's the plastic surround where the column adjusts, anyone know how to cure this as it's a pain in the backside.

Passenger door was rattling, audi put a run of felt strips on the inner body of where the door closes too, and has solved the problem, on the rubbers around the door, i use a rubber treatment to keep the rubbers supple, do this ever 2nd wash and it'll be fine, regards the felt (anti rattle) tape, vagparts sell this stuff, and its cheap!!

Other than that my car has bin pretty good, touch wood, lol.

I have the same thing in my 98 A3 1.8T, am going to see if holding the parcel shelf stops it.

99 S3 with 90k on the clock and no rattles or squeaks anywhere, just as it should be.

Only downside points are as usual, first cold day this year (3 degrees C) and the coolant sensor kicked in, so I added a little more, problem solved.

No doubt in the winter if I try adjusting the volume in the morning I'll get the radio at full blast til I hit the off button.

If this is all I have to look out for in almost 4 years I'll still be happy.

The S3 is pretty well screwed together, cheers.
