I'm undecided. There seems to be a lot of different opinions as to whether it's a good idea or not.

Just sorting out the final few tools we need for next week.

Paul is not much use as he runs N/A power, but have looked at a few pics of high powered turbo cars engine bays to see what they do to keep heat where they want it, failing that it's the B&Q / Dave heat shield in Kermit green.

You never said you were inviting .......(insert pub member of your choice)

Did you manage to sort that issue you had about not yet having your hands on a fellow members honer?

Thats great! Been following your posts on facebook.

Mine should be off the ramps tomorrow. Totally shagged the engine mounts due to the torque and mashed the fixing brackets. Unbelieveable mess.

Will have to go up soon too, been meaning to test what it can do another set of rollers.

yeah i saw your car at infinity exhaust on saturday. looks nice by the way. i upgraded all my engine mounts to ths mounts during the build. torque is insane i have to admit, god only knows what it will be like when i uncap the boost to 2 bar spikes . good luck getting it sorted, although engine mounts are a easy job so should be no problems.

It's funny getting recognised by a car first...i'm still getting used to that! Glad yours is well and i'm looking forward to seeing it in the flesh.

Thanks...it's nearly fiished...have all of the ancillary hoses/top mounts and booth gauges being installed before tweaking the map next oor tomorrow. I should have done them prior really and is a bit of an oversight...It was only when i read this thread that i twigged it.

Apologies to Neil...not trying to hijack your thread.

On that note, I have some photos of my mounts and they are in appalling condition. I have cited this thread and am tempted to post something similar to any newcomers to ASN seeking 300bhp on high mileague/old cars that they really need to think about mounts/bushes/clutches/rods etc...as before you know it, you can get badly stung in £ and time off the road. I read a lot of posts and many seem to be forgetting the age of these vehicles. If yours are anything like mine, you have done a very very astute replacement at the right time as I imagine your torque will be throttling the poor old things!!

I'm sure brand new standard OEM mounts will be sufficiant. I know Welly only put standard ones in his 400bhp monster. My car will only be doing around 3000 miles max a year so we'll see how the standard mounts hold out.

My THS ones move much less than all the (albeit tired) std mounts on cars I have seen on the dyno.... that said, I was test driving the TT we built the other day which has Vibratechnic mounts.... it feels much more connected and I didn't notice any vibrations...

They are currently on my to do list ;P

I'm a believer in standard mounts and bushes too, Its easy to say the poly bushes feel alot better than a worn standard bush, but a new standard bush has to be pretty good!

I agree to a point... but... most std mounts have big voids in them for movement and while new std bushes will be tighter it won't stop the overall movement...

The front arm bushes for example on the S3 are both voided... this actually changes the geometry under braking!!... replacing these with poly fronts and TT solid rubber rears are a vast improvement over the way the car feels under braking with no detriment to in cabin comfort... even new engine mounts won't hold the engine in place... the things literally rise out the engine bay on the dyno... you can certainly tell the difference between mounting solutions...

However there is no need to go silly and poly the crap out of everything... that is purely subjective to use.... Bill's Ibiza race car uses vibratechnic bushes in the front arms and rear beam... these are essentially rubber bands surrounded by metal and are as solid as you can get next to rose jointing... that would probably be overkill on a road lol but I have seen a few cars come in with them fitted

Flip side is the expense sadly, THS mounts are good value and a suitable alternative if on a budget and feel more connected than std mounts but... they are subject to the same wear as std mounts and tbh I think mine are going a little soft... I don't do much mileage in mine either and have done less than 20k on my THS mounts... I don't drive the car like I stole it and they they don't feel anyway as connected as when I drove the TT...

After all this rambling all I am trying to say is don't discount uprated mounts but choose the right combo and it will reward you without compromising your comfort... phew :D

I am officially all set for the build.

Aragorn's honing tool arrived in the post today and I also collected the last few bits I needed. Got 4 cans of brake cleaner, 2 polythene sheets to protect the garage floor, a polystyrene board for placing parts onto and writing on for reference, some assembly lube, 2 washing up bowls for dropping the engine and gearbox oil, and some freezer bags to put nuts and bolts into to keep organised.

Got lots of tools including an engine hoist and stand incase we do decide to remove the block.

    Roll on 10am tomorrow.
