Nice man! Looks pretty mean.

If you're going to leave the grilles out, I'd raise the core up a tad so that the pipes are at least central in the appature.

Must be VERY good IATs with that monster core though. I must get myself one!

Any obvious increase in lag?

That's the plan mate but at the moment theres no brackets holding up the core and the crash bar needs a bit more off it.

I've not driven it yet as I couldn't be *****. I'll drive to to work tomorrow and see what's what.

Drove into work today. Didn't do any logging as I was taking it easy and listening out for any strange noises and knocks.

The car seems to fire up better, idle better, and is very smooth compared to the restrictive small core with SMIC.

I let the old minger warm up and stuck my foot in and Jesus Christ, she pulls like a train! I was a bit sad when I got in the car this morning due to not having the fogs and the front end looking more like an A3 than an S3, but i'm happy with the performance ;)

Fogs??

Meh. F**k em.

check your settings, boost, and adjust down if you need to... with Tams sps thingy

We tried reading my settings last week but I think I had a dodgy cable! Can you remember what you set them too by any chance?

I had a quick look at my boost guage and it doesn't appear to be spiking so it may be ok as it is!?

lol, you keep asking me about the settings dude.. as per dynoplot, B8T3 I think it was. {edit - b7t4 according to the dynoplot posted in your thread ;) }
so long as not spiking, thats good.

Do these logs if you can to confirm your new fuel pump is all coolio

Ok guys as I've been asked about what hoses, reducers, etc I used for my latest FMIC I've decided to post up the following llist of bits you'll need:

You'll need 2 76mm-63mm silicone 90 degree reducers:
76mm > 63mm 90° Elbow Reducer Silicone Hose Black | eBay

2 63mm alloy 90 degree bends:
63mm Diameter Alloy Bend Elbow 90° Degree Aluminium | eBay

2 63mm 90 degree silicone bends:
Black Silicone Hose Elbow 90 Degree 63mm 4 Ply | eBay

1 63mm alloy joiner:
Alloy hose joiner 63mm 2 1/2" Silicon Silicone hose | eBay

And of course, the beast:
FMIC FFRONT MOUNT TURBO INTERCOOLER TYPE B 600x300x76MM | eBay

Oh and it might help if you have some clamps, you'll need a pack of 10

So defo no luck with keeping the fogs. Pity that. Looks like I will have to go for the Ah fabs cooler instead as I would not get rid of the fogs myself.

Sometimes, you simply have to sacrifice something you want to keep, to realise your potential performance...

Not a chance in hell unless you can do as Bill mentioned and get the in/out changed to 60mm and then have 90 degree alloy bens welded straight on.

I didn't want to loose my fogs really but at the end of the day I'd rather have a reliable 270bhp then a heat soaked car struggling.

Could you not cut back the reducer on the 76mm side as tight as possible, narrowing the overall length of the cooler and pipes or is this not the problem.

No the angle on the reducer is spot on and clears the fogs fine. The issue is with the silicone being so thick that the bumper wont push back on at the bottom which is why the hoses have to protude out of the fog light area.

Num so the fogs will fit its just the grills that dont. Thats good as i bought 2 new fogs last yeah and the last thing i want to do is not have them. Maybe some time modding the grills could get them to fit. I Think im going to have to wait till next payday and just get it all and just use the 60mm alloy pipe that i got bill to weld the wmi boss onto

Going to pressure drop test mine this weekend, ive just fabricated a nifty t piece to plumb in... westy was your old fmic checked for leaks properly before the pressure drop test? as you had just installed it and as you know leaks are rife on first installation until you get used to the t clamps....

Grills wont fit either I'm afraid. The issue is whith the brackets that the grills clip into, they get in the way. Also the pipework sticks out of the holes too far to even bother with the fogs.

It would be good if the S3 bumper was just an inch and a half bigger :(

It wasn't pressure tested but I had re-tightened and checked the clamps 4 times before I went to Bill's. There is a possibilty that there could have been a small leak somewhere.

Judging from Danes post maybe I wont be going to AH fabs for a cooler. Sounds like they are an absolute nightmare to deal with. So what to do now. I defo want to keep the fogs so looks like your cooler is out of the question unless I can find someone to modify the the outlets to 63mm.

Little update on the brake situation.

You may remember I had a go at stripping them myself but didn't have the tools or the know how. ScottB5 offered to have a go and these are his pics of his work so far.

All pistons out:

Piston seals and dust boots (what was left of them) out:

IMAG0439.jpg

I've just ordered brand new seals and dust boots for a bargain £148  and Scott is getting the calipers powder coated for me at the end of this week.

I've still got to order these:

VW - PORSCHE BREMBO CALIPER ADAPTERS GOLF TT VRS LEON on eBay (end time 17-Jul-11 11:32:37 BST)

And a set of braided hoses.

Not the cheapest 2nd hand brake setup but they will be like a brand new set of calipers so they should be great.

I'd like to say a big thanks to Scott for his efforts and being kind enough to offer to refurb them for me. That's what I love about this forum :friends:

Fitting and bleeding up a full kit should take about 2 hours tops dude, so I wouldn't worry about getting it done.

They should be worth it when done though :) make sure you get some decent pads for the ring trip though!

I've got 1 year old Motul RBF600 in the lines at the moment so going to swap the brembos on and top up fluid. I'll be getting another set of DS2500s for the brembos. I was impressed with them last year.

work perfectly from cold but take more hammer and heat abuse...
ds2500 and ds3000 are both technically Race Pads as they exceed reg90 friction.. which is what makes them sooooooooo much better

We'll see. I might get the 3000s ;)

Been fannying about with the FMIC again tonight. It's all finished except I didn't have long enoug bolts so my old man in going to knock some up tomorrow at work. Here's the bad boy:

Car apart again:

The brackets. Ignore the little wood blocks, they were there to hold the core straight while we were offering up the bumper.

Also quickly ran a little 4" cold feed up towards the filter. Doubt it'll make much difference but every little helps:

I'll finally get to do some logs tomorrow evening once the brackets are all bolted in. Got to log my fueling after the new fuel pump was fitted and AITs with this cooler. I cannee wait man!

Nice one dude it looks gooooood

Thanks matey.

I know it's not to everyones taste and to be honest I would have liked to have kept the fogs but she does look ****** mean now. It will perform extremely well so i am happy.

I really need to get the front bumper resprayed, the stone chips are unbelievable!

Keep up the good work dude :D I would of loved to come to the ring again. Shame I am working over that weekend..... Will be wanting to know what ppl get on their times.

If a bird can do it in 10 mins in a transit van. Then you should be more than able to beat that :p Get on the gran turismo ;)

Its when you hear a lambo gunning it behind you that worries start to set in lol

Have you noticed anything different with the new pump, i think mine is dying, is it just logging how you can tell, or can you get a gauge on the line? mine will just not fire up first time.... second time evertime,
