1.8T noobie guide please!!!!

Currently have a mk1 clio 16v but fancy some turbo power and almost deffinately going to get a A3 1.8T in the coming months.
What sorta things must i look for when buying?? Any guides on how to keep them in condition i.e how long to wait at a standstil to help the turbo wind down before turning off?
What are the power bands at?

In the grand scheme of things does a chipped A3 provide a more or less rewarding drive/fun than a standard S3, obvious comparisons of wet weather ability excluded?
