need help on my fks

hi all just wondering if anyone no what wrong with my fks on the front when i jack the car up the top of the struts go down but when i aint got it jack up the top touch the bonnet and bang both sides theres a bout 15 to 20mm gap between bottom of the plate thing and the body i will get a pic of it as i cant really explan it and there is a bang on the passenger side at the rear it is a a3 1.8tsport agu 1999/treg cheers

no thats normal mate!

are you sure its them touching the bonnet? i doubt they are raised enough to do that? might be something else knocking. did you change the top mounts when you fit them?

no i dint change the top mounts and i can see the paint rubbed off and denting on the bonnet

The caps always have a little gap under them but if they're fouling the bonnet somethings not right.

Who fitted them?

Top mount bushes are badly worn, you need new ones

me and a mate done them we done one at the time to make sure we done them right lol ive been looking on ebay and there is some adjustable top mount made from ally but there 100guid here Audi TT A3 S3 Golf Seat Suspension Alloy Top Mounts on eBay (end time 15-May-11 15:16:54 BST) does anyone think i should get them or just the rubber one?

I noticed mine were doing the same at the weekend...

When i had standard shocks the mounts sat flush with the chassis. I've had my Bilsteins on for quite a while now and havent noticed this before. The top mounts were new when the Bilstein went on so about 6000 miles max?

Could it be that something wasnt tightened up properly?

What most peeps here have said... new top mounts and while you are at it bearings... I used LCR top mounts as they are stiffer but std one will be fine..

Mine look more like Cookstein's now they have settled and is normal... yours are worn which is why they are higher and if they are touching the bonnet (my nearside one was doing the same) the bearings could be broken too... mine had fallen apart..
