Probably the end of June/beginning to middle of July mate would be favorable for me mate. If you could find a reputable garage near you, we could tie it in with a trip to Bill's for a dyno run and a check up, as he's relatively close to you, isn't he?

well theres either infinity exhausts by me, or im sure theres a longlife center near you isnt there? yeah bills not too far away! sounds like a plan to me! its going to be around that sort of time that i'll be getting mine mapped up so might just get it mapped with the std downpipe so im up and running then if needs be take it back at a later date to adjust for the stainless one

The nearest one for me is about 50 miles away, although I think there is a longlife by you, or is that infinity exhausts? Get it mapped and dyno'd with the std pipe, then go back with the new downpipe to see the difference in power

yeah there is a longlife near me but they wanted £400+vat for a catback using the standard bore pipework! (2.25") and they said that would be MORE than good enough to run 350bhp....which is absolute ******** so i was put right off of using them!! where as infinity quoted me £320 all in for a 2.5" catback and £350 all in for a 3" system so much more reasonable and ive used them twice before so know they do a good job, i was just thinking for your sake really, wouldnt be very fair getting you to come all this way

Well I wouldn't mind really, I'd tie it in with making a trip up to see some uni mates in Bristol, as well as going to Bill's.

I have a mate, (sounds dodgy I know) but he's a mustard welder and exhaust/manifold maker, and If one of us can get a pic/design of what we need, I'll ask him to see what he thinks.

And just to point out - he's got a 600hp skyline which he built his own full titanium exhaust system for, lectures mechanics in the local college and would do it a a reasonable price. He's the man who has my A3 at the moment.

well when im doing the turbo i'll take the downpipe off and get some measurments and a few pics of it if that would be any good? the main problem is we have the stupid twin cat design, ideally we should buy our own sports cats from ebay or where ever and have who ever we get to make our downpipes weld our sports cats into the bottom of the downpipe then mate that to our existing catback, totally eliminating the crappy twin pipe design!!

have you seen a standard downpipe for our cars? truely shocking, it goes from the turbo straight into two pipes that appear to have a tiny bore, then down to the two cats then into one pipe that goes to the catback, so it looks abit of a nightmare job if your wanting to keep the twin cats

Never really had the chance to have a good look at it.

Any pics/measurements etc you could get would be great. I'd want to get mine in 2.5'' as that's what about 1/2 of my system is..

Do we really need twin cats, or could the design not be simplified by just having one?

yeah im going for 2.5" aswell

yeah thats what i mean, if we get our own sports cat.we could just have a single piece downpipe made and simply have the sports cat welded in then mated to the catback, totally doing away with the twin pipe design and just having a nice 2.5" all the way through in a single pipe

might be worth getting in touch with your mate for a very rough quote and see if he's willing to take on the work

any idea where we would find 2 sports cats from? Also, what cell CAT do you reckon we'd need? Would be an interesting project, and something that I think will require a bit of research and planning..

I'll ask him tomorrow when I get the old girl back, just waiting on a sensor for the pads, and a couple of bolts from Audi, one being the bolt that holds the shock in place

you will only need a single 200cell cat this will eliminate the pita cats that are standard also will make the downpipe more simple to make.
longlife quoted me £720 for full system including 200cell cat and 3" downpipe

New pollen filter has just arrived from ECP, will be putting it on when I get the car back later, can't wait now. Should be like a new car. I might be coming up to Bristol next Thursday for the day, so would be cool to meet up Ste, if you're free. I'll find out for definite tomorrow/thursday..

Badger 5 is about the same from me as well, but it seems like quite a good place to meet, and it's an equal distance between us, as ste is only about 30/40 mins away.

    SPORTS CAT - 200 CELL - OVAL - 63mm inlet + outlet | eBay UK

2.5" bore all the way through

I'll still be around at 5 mate, which is handy. The part of Bristol I'm going to is Filton.

Like the look of that CAT, and not a bad price either..

Oh, and thanks alot for the ball joint guide, sounds like it's pretty simple, might wait for a while to do it.

Is there anyway of telling if they're on the way out, or is it just replace them for precaution?

What is your opinion on your polybushes, I have read and been told that they are too hard for road use, are they?

Some more info on that TT 180 Quattro downpipe 42 Draft Designs

makes you wonder would it not be less hassle to just look out for some second hand S3 or TT gear and goto the Ko4 turbo, i mean i already have an S3 downpipe and cats that came with my S3 exhaust what else would i need ? a Ko4 turbo and an S3 exhaust manifold followed up with a remap ?? couple that with the fact my car has done 130,000 miles now on it's origional KO3 turbo.... it's got to be getting tired and there's more potential in the KO4

Would you not need an S3 throttle body as well, seeing as it's on the other side on an S3.

Also, I'm sure I read somewhere that the K04 sits lower then the K03s. meaning that an S3 exhaust wouldn't fit, without modification anyway, onto one of our engine blocks, even with a K04 fitted.

No the blocks are identical so just bolting on an S3 or 223 TT exhaust manifold would put the KO4 in the correct position.... i'm not sure about the inlet side of things..... an S3 TIP would be needed but i don't think it would matter that the throttle body is on the other side and if you were happy with standard S3 power i think the standard TQS injectors and FPR would fine too.... would it be posible to remmap it with a standard S3 map ?? i dunno thats one for Bill or the other more savvy guys on here.... i would be more than happy with 223 BHP.... it's a hard one to call i mean a KO3s upgrade with a remap and FMIC would yeild similar power mines the older TQS you see with a standard KO3 as far as i know

I was going to say, is it really worth it for all that effort? If you get the manifold and the K04 turbo, that's going to be more then a downpipe for one of ours, and you then still have to source a map for that, hope the FPR and injectors can hope, supply a tip and an S3 MAF as well.. I think it's probably cheaper to get the downpipe for the TQS.

    Mines a 2000, and the 180, K03s version, but quattro1 has a '99 preface model and he also has a K03s

Just looking at your pics markyboy, and I really need to pull my finger out and fit my ABT grill, they look the nuts. Also, like the cupra splitter, might get myself one of those as it helps to finish off the front end. Did you use self tappers, or adhesive for the splitter.

You also have the best colour of them all!

My ko3s was an upgrade, not standard lol

Honestly don't see the point in popping a ko4 on you would need -
    Downpipe
    Manifold
    Tip
    Atleast a 2.5" exhaust system
    Extended oil/water lines
Remap, a standard s3 map is pointless when for the same money you can get a stage 1 map?
And you would really struggle with intake temps on the standard a3 side mount intercooler

Chris your ball joints will be squeeking and you will be getting alot of body roll and understeer if they are worn lol
And as for the polybushes, I have them and couldn't rate them highly enough, the difference they make is night and day and definitely not too harsh for road use

I've got a tiny squeak from the front, but it's only noticeable going over the bumps that are on the lane to my house, so I'm not too worried.

Just got it back, didn't get chance to get the bushes done, as I needed the car back for my lovely 7 o'clock start in the morning. Wheel bearing and track rod end has made a massive difference, and the car feels like it did when I bought it, pretty tight and handling pretty well.

The discs are still bedding in, so the brakes feel sh*te at the moment, will keep you guys updated on that. Although, they look awesome, really fill behind the wheel.

    get some pics up!!!

did you get the front or rear bearings done? do you mind me asking what you paid? as ive got a rear one on its way out

deffo put some money aside for bushes if you want to get rid of the understeer we all suffer from, mines pretty much totally gone now!

I'll get some tomorrow evening when I finish work.

I got the n/s front wheel bearing, track rod end, suspension bolts and o/s outer CV gaitor supplied and fitted, as well as the discs, pads, braided lines, carriers and engine bush fitted for £220.

This is by the mate with the Skyline, he's a handy bloke to know

I'll have to have a look at the bushes now, but at the moment I want more power!!

throttle body pipe you could make your own ive just ordered some pipes of ebay because needed to extend the fmic pipes so for the sake of extra 30quid got 2 elbows and two joiners to make own throttle body pipe.

the k04 conversion does sound interesting yeh you need the turbo oil and water lines etc..... but on the plus side stage 1 map on k04 out does a stage two on a ko3s also im only looking for around 240bhp mark so 250bhp from stage 1 map on k04 sounds very tempting

tip made a decent difference chris, my little ko3 sounds like a much bigger turbo as its spooling up now made my 007p louder though which i dont really like (only because i had the 007p itsself)

throttle body pipe made no difference at all id have said, just looks better and i only got it because i was fitting my front mount lol.

    A few pics here:
This is one I took of the best average mpg I've ever had on a run, I was so chuffed that I had to get a pic.

These next two are pics I took on my phone, today after work, showing the new brakes behind the wheel.

Starting to bed in now and they are a massive improvement. This is how they should have come as standard. I'm not sure if it's the braided lines as well, but it stops alot better from 60+ mph, around town you can't really tell, but when you start to press on, it's noticeable how much quicker you stop.

    A worthwhile upgrade.

And ste, they look even better when you're looking at them in the flesh/metal
