Reversing light switch???

Folks, I'm about to change the box on the a3, and update the gear linkage set up to a later one. The only issue I've noticed is this housing on top of the tower. Is it the reversing light switch mech? And if so, I assume there will be no I'll effects of leaving it unplugged?

It's a track car, so not fussed about reversing lights

Also, my new box has a small plug just below the shift tower, would I be right in thinking this is the reverse light switch on the later box, seen here screwed in on the right?
