Forgot to update you on the rear bushes mate. Mechanic said they were a piece of piss to do, the old ones were proper knackered aswell, said they just knocked out, didnt have to burn or cut them out, i told him about your miss hap with the brake line and he said if you unclip the brak line along from the front to the back it gives you plenty of workin room.

just posting a picture of the offending coolant pipe/housing thats leaking.
the red line marks the crack. the housing is made from 2 pieces joined it seems and has cracked along the weld.

hopefully scott or reesy can help me out here and have a spare i can buy. not been to the stealers yet, dont reaally have the time. luckily i dont use the car for work.

dani: good to hear they were easy for the mechanic. did he not say the bolt that holds the bush in was corroded to ****??
im waiting for a slot on my mates ramp to do mine, should be much easier at head height with plenty of room.

Karl, It looks like mine but with a different angle.
I'll dig it out tonight and post it up for you to take a look and try.

Mine split in the same place. I tried welding it, glueing it and it still leaked.
So bought 2, for some reason. lol

I had the same leak, replacement part was £16 from the dealers. I think I ended up picking it up from tps as the stealer didn't have one but tps did, so rather than them ordering it waiting for it to be delivered I just picked it up directly.

Yeah, this is one to watch out for. The S3 has a very specific plastic hard pipe there, Audi supplied me the wrong one once because they are muppetts...

06A 121 132 AH is the part number for the S3 one, is has more of a dog leg for the heater matrix pipes than the K03 equipped versions.

Looks like this: Home Page > ES#2470 Coolant Hose Flange - 06A121132Q

    06A 121 133 C will not fit!

firstly, i cant believe i've only just seen wellys post, now that would have been helpful.

had a fight with the VW parts man, went to TPS to find they have 3 part numbers, as do audi.
so a couple of days pass not using the car until i take the part off to find the number: 06A 121 132 J

so request this at TPS, the part number has been superceded by 06A 121 132 AP (i assume you meant AP welly?) either way, you need the only part number ending in two letters Asomething.

    extreme mechanicing:

    and the part:

tight for space like any job on these sodding engines. but not difficult.

everyone knows what the wind was like today/tonight, the part flew away once lol, and i nearly fell over a few times. extreme
2 bottles of G12 later and its running well again, maintains temperature, totally dry.

    to clarify:
    06A 121 132 AP - i paid £11.28 with 8% discount from TPS.

    off for a drive.....................

    2012 YAYYYYYYYY........

    NO.

    1.flu
    2.no 4wd
    3.need two tires
    4.need alignment
5.will need to get coilovers before alignment
6.bad repair on the rear quarter has paint pealed

wait till i upload pics of my tires, you will laugh. its a perfect example of why alignment, camber, and tie bars are so important.

all the above totally ruins my plans for the car. was hoping for some power upgrades and another step toward stage2. but priorities have changed.

    pics to follow.

Gutted! I know how you feel, my power upgrades have already been scuppered by needing MAF, starter motor, rear calipers discs and pads, tax and mot. I'm not sick but my mrs is, that sucks!!! Hope you get it sorted...

stay positive mate, i'm sure you'll get some extra power this year...

The paint issue is a major bummer, you had any quotes to get it right? The place i used is quite reasonable and the job is respectable, let me know if you need a hand with anything!

Majorly surprised about the tyre wear, i ran lowering springs on my 18's and 19's for quite a while and never suffered from uneven wear, i wonder if it has something to do with the poorly haldex somehow?...

the paint issue is a repair done before my ownership. it took me a while to notice it after i bought it during a detailing session when i noticed the metallic was different to the original door paint.
its a bad repair in my eyes, only really visible in bright sunlight, but the pearl effect difference is massive. if id have known before buying the car i wouldnt have bought, because things like this are 1.Expensive and 2.Damn annoying when you know they're there.
the paint has lifted by the rubbing strip that runs the length of the car. its tiny, but these things grow fast!

I know a few people in the bodyshop business, but id want the absolute best result possible. so if you know anyone who is superb that would be handy. i know your repair after your bump is brilliant from what i've seen. although it can wait for now! il see how fast it deteriorates.

my rear camber/tire wear issue is baffling. its not lowered, so shouldnt be like this. i need my coilovers, and i need alignment. then i can expect tires to last more than 8 months. That is my main objective now.

this is the things with cars. you think things are fine and you think you can get on with some tasty mods when something crops up.

i've got to be honest, im really not loving the car much anymore. i want to, but at the min i've lost interest and motivation.
Its had so much done to keep it up to date in maintenance and make it feel solid, yet theres still so far to go.

Chin up mate! I know how you feel though, my maintenance bill for repairs over only the last 12 months has been over £1500 (that's even with doing some work myself). It's hard to modify these cars due to the rate at which they naturally fall apart!

If you get the paint sorted you might feel more motivated as all the rest is reasonably straight forward..?

Karl, I know how much you love your shiney paintwork but you need to put that job last on your list. My car has needed a full respray for 2 years now but I'm not touching it till last.

Check over the haldex strap and connector like I mentioned to you. Dont by new tyres until you've got your car aligned properly or you'll just ruin the tyres again. If I was you I'd prioritise the jobs in the following order:

    1.no 4wd
2.will need to get coilovers before alignment
    3.need alignment
    4.need two tires
5.bad repair on the rear quarter has paint pealed

I agree with Westy's priority list, my comment around the paint was more to cure the lack of motivation. I had a paint/rust issue on my old A3 and it annoyed me so much I ended up selling it, despite the rest of the car being spot on!

thanks westy, you are right about the priorities list.
im booking a ramp at my mates for next sunday. full day, me and my dad will hit it all.

thoroughly go over the haldex, fit my new controller i have for the hell of it, oil and filter change. and earth it properly.
i still have 2 bushes to do then il properly adjust my tie arms and try and get it much less camber to tide me over.
    coilovers and alignment.
hopefully tires will be 'ok' for a little while.

i need to get pics up of them. just for a laugh.

    time for an update....

so as i mentioned last time i had a list of issues. since then i've adressed them all.

first thing il put though is that i fitted a B5 V2 tip not long after christmas with a jetex cone. everyones seen them now but il include pics just to show comparison between youor regular tip and B5 tip:

now i was previously getting 191g/s with the samco tip and a green cotton panel filter (both are forsale) so it will be interesting what il have with this setup.

    anyway, thats the cool stuff.

next il show you my tires, falken fk452, these are 8 months old, about 8k miles ish, and this is why rear camber, lowering, and adjustable tie bars are so important!!

no i was worried about my camber when i got my car back on the road last year, it looked ridiculous, and when i had alignment done at awesome after all my bushes/joints/links/wheels fitted it had 2.4 degrees on the back, which is stupid!
so i got myself a set of S3daves adjustable tie arms, i fitted these with poly bushes and wound them out half a turn, obv this wasnt enough, and hadnt realised just how bad the wear was, it had done castle combe at ADI like this.

so i tried to address this this weekend.
first i was going to fit these: (the bushes not the arms)

last time i tried to fit these it ended in disaster and i snapped a brake line, doh. this time i had a ramp:

so removed wheel, unbolted the droplink and shock in order to lower the hub as much as possible:

undo the 4 bolts at the front of the arm and pull down to release it and your faced with this:

the bush itself is inside this cup which bolts to the body. quite frankly it looks shagged and i was concerned id never get the bolts undone on the bush:

luckily though the 'windy gun' got it off and the bush was revealed:

this bush looked BRAND NEW! i couldnt believe it, it was clear this wasnt going to fall out or come out easy and we'd need the press, which we had, the only thing we didnt have was the time, we'd started this at around 7 o'clock and didnt want to be taking the whole hub assembly off only to be there alllll night, so, we put it back together.
i was quite happy to find it was in great condition considering how bad all the other things i've changed have been. and did say to my mate maybe it isnt worth putting poly ones in. but seeing as though i have them, we'l change these in a whole day to give us time to do it.

so now was to adjust the tie arms to get me some normal camber for the time being until i go and get it aligned properly!
this was very easy to do, an adjustable spanner was all i needed, so i marked on side of the nut so i knew when id done a whole turn and started winding away:

    how bad the camber is:

    after adjustment:

now i adjusted them by eye trying to match the fronts at least, i think the front were at 1 degree camber at the max, which is acceptable.
then i devised a way to make sure they were even both sides. i used a breaker bar held against my wheel:

and measured the tip of the breaker bar to my arch:

this made sure both sides were pretty much identical, and in the end i had 10mm between the breaker bar and the arch. i was happy with this till alignment time.

after my amateur alignment i was much happier with how the car felt, much more planted and less skippy over bumpy roads.

next up was my coilovers and LCR topmounts to go on which i did today (sunday).

AP coilovers bought from venom motorsport for a very reasonable £451.
id already been in sandips car and was impressed with how comfy/smooth yet planted it felt and they are a very good price and have great feedback from them.
the lcr top mounts were bought from TPS.
    mount part no: 1ML412331 £55.73
    bearing part no: S1J0412249 £11.62
thats with an imense 8% discount. not cheap, but worth it.

S3 top mount on the left. LCR on the right:

i first decided to take the coilovers aprt and grease the threads and the damper rod up:

very high quality these coilovers, v impressed.

so after a bit of trouble trying to get the standard shocks out, clearance issues, actually having room to pull them out the hubs, they were fitted in no time at all really:

nice and shiny, which i like

    lowered the car down:

freaking low i think you'l agree, lowest setting on the fronts here, with rears still standard.
so up again and wheels off to adjust, we wound the adjuster 10mm to settle for this:

which will do for now and will probably settle lower.

    next the rears:

no i fitted these and it was actually higher than standard with the adjusters half way, so i adjusted it to the min and still wasnt low enough.
i've since spoken to sandip who runs the rear spring without adjusters but i have mine like this:

thats the black and blue adjuster, then at the bottom is the rubber bump stop that was with the standard springs.

we lowered the car down anyway and have left it. i know it will settle a little and i have all the old stuff in the boot for added weight.
    it looks like this:

so with the car down and set at a reasonable height i shall leave it for a week before adjusting to what i want, removing the rear adjusters if necessary, then off to awesome gti for laser alignment.

i then went over the top mounts and tightened them and was happy they now sit like so:

rather than sticking 10mm out the top. s3 top mounts must have been ruined and tbh they looked abit dissfigured.

so with coilovers on and camber adjusted accordingly im now happy.
the car feels great, very comfy, incredibly planted and sooooo little roll! im very happy with it.
i just need 2 tires on it and my alignment done and it will feel great!

il give the car a thorough clean and get some better photos of its stance soon.

i do have a haldex update to post but il do that another time. i've got to dash to my mates now to watch topgear.

toodles. and thankyou for your time.

thanks for the ongoing support and advice guys, you lot have helped me along the way.

James - the B5 TIP is a great mod, the noise is great, very addictive. the car feels v responsive and the most noticable thing is the power up top, its got so much more 'go' higher up the rev range, i never used to go above or near 6k, now i find myself riding the power right the way up to and over it. and im not even mapped!

Sandip - i like your list haha, you're a bad influence. but i think it looks like this now:

    1.flu - gone
    2.no 4wd - done......sort of
    3.need two tires - next
    4.need alignment - next
5.will need to get coilovers before alignment - done
6.not spend any money on the car for a while! - definately doing
    7.3"downpipe decat - love to
    8.manifold - love to
    9.rods - love to
    10.new turbo - love to
11.map - sick of hearing about this one but id love to

westy - your bullying has gone too far!
one thing i will say, is at least my car can put its power down, mine is probably faster than yours right now with that clutch. so nerrrrrr!

dave - il be taking the adjuster out i think, the blue bit, just for and extra 5mm or whatever it will be.

mini update tho: done alot of driving tonight, been having alot of fun and i love the car again, so much fun the law had to interupt me at one point
the car just feels so much more aggressive to drive, like it loves being thrown around, and i love throwing her around, just ask westys mum.
it seems like the car has lowered alot already too, the rear end has really come down now, seems all the coils needed was a few cycles of being compressed. the front is so low i had a fight with a speed bump, the thud it gave me means i wont be trying to get over it anytime soon.
il give the car a dam good clean soon and i've found a neat spot for a couple of photos. id like some opinions on ride heights and how i should adjust it, think il have a flick through the pic thread to see what i like.

    cheers

my haldex is being a funny bugger, i need to upload a vid and then il explain all. it works, but has strange behaviour.##

Little update from Friday night at awesomegti
we had a good meet and it was quite eventful.

did the usual logging and i was interested to see the differences in logs with my B5 tip and jetex. the ressults were that airflow stayed the same, 191 G/S. this leads me to believe that the airflow on the standard map its on is maxed, i wont see anymore, like i havent, because the turbo is getting all it needs. im not dissapointed at all, i expected it, theres only so much a standard tune can flow.

but, like my seat dyno, the car pulls better like i always said, and i think this is shown by the boost we logged which will be uploaded when i get them.
0 timing pull, low iat's. all is good.

there is just 1 thing though!
sandips car used to have a distinct sound on idle, a chug chug chug chug sound, almost scooby like. no as we all no he had a compression test and it showed to be very low on one cylinder, hence the idle noise.
so, il be getting a compression test done to see if everything is in check, if it isnt, then she comes apart and gets rebuilt, if it is, more toys.

last night my friend brought along his racelogic timing box incase anyone wanted to have a go at some 0-60s or whatever. i had a go, and after some scary clutch abuse did 6.6s to 60.
im happy with what i got, considering 1. i have to make 2 gear changes to do this. and 2. im not sure if my clutch slips like a fekker on the initial launch.
il have it at 5k, drop the clutch, it pulls like hell, but the revs will stay at 5k for about 2 seconds before actually going up. i hope i describe that well, im not sure if its normal. either way as fun as these launches are (i fully understand danes addiction) i dont like doing them tbh, i dont want to kill my clutch unnessesarily.

oh yeh, and i went in Lees supercharged RS4........oh my!

Karl you'll know if the clutch is slipping mate, you can feel it without needing to view the rev counter. Mine is quite bad at the moment and it feels like powere is being cut then it comes back then it's pulled back. Very annoying. I have to feather the throttle or it just slips as soon as the turbo comes in.
