S3 secondary waterpump Q

Hi all can anyone tell me how the secondary waterpump at the front of the car is operated ie is it all the time or just when a certain temperature has been reached like on my old VR6.Just curious really because mine seems to run on most of the time no matter how small a journey for about 5mins or so just wondered if this is right.Haven`t had the car long so still learing my way round it..thanks in advance..

Thanks for that pretty sure on an occasion or two it hasn`t run on so will keep any eye on it..cheers

Mine doesn't run from time to time.... Never figured out why.

Hi, I had the same problem with pump not working. When I looked into it I found this was down to dirty motor brushes. You can strip it down and clean, its bit of job though. Or you can do like I do and give it a good tap every now and again to clear the dirt.
