Interior door handle not working

I've got a problem with the passenger side door, the interior handle will unlock the door, but won't open it, to get out you have to use the exterior handle. I've had a look today everything seems to be connected, no obvious problem

Also, it looks like someone in the past has tried to break in with a screw driver, do you think this could be the cause of the problem

Mine does this from time to time too.

Frustrating, but im never in the passenger seat ;-)

As to why this does this, I have no idea.
