AH Fabrications FMIC - Installation Questions

questions for anyone that's fitted one before..

Did you remove the metal pipe that runs behind the radiator and connects the 2 original inter coolers ?

the lower part of my bumper really doesn't want to go back on, its predictably catching on the fog lights - just wanted to check it is actually possible to retain the fog lights ?

Ok, forge instructions leave it in place. I would rather remove it but it doesn't look straightforward.

Thanks, I'll trim those elbows and try again

It actually holds the powersteering pipe on too, so unless you fab something it will have to stop on

AH Fabs FMIC is designed to fit with the fogs in place.. I know as I designed it that way... if the pipes are fouling the bumper at the bottom then I would suggest spacing the brackets down from the bumper bar a bit as it was designed this way to allow adjustment to get the hoses tight under the fog light brackets...

The bumper doesn't go all the way back to the original 2 holes underneath but everything should line up fine... I notched in where the original holes were to fit the captive nut a little further forward so I could fix mine in properly

You don't have to remove the pipe that spans the front of the car and as said it is also a fixing point for the power steering pipework... I removed mine however and made a new bracket up for the PS pipes...

Perfect - thanks for that !

Ill take out the grills by the fog lights so I can see what height the cooler needs to be at

I might also remove that metal connecting pipe too then, dont want to leave it if its fairly easy to make a bracket for the power steering pipework

Had another go today and I can see now how I need to get the pipes running under the fog lights, makes a lot more sense

the old connecting pipe looks quite structural though, its connected with 6 bolts into the chassis legs !

its not structural... very light steel and the A3's are the same chassis and don't have one... on the LCR's that are also the same setup as the S3 they have an alloy one...
