Removing hazard indicator switch on 2001 A3

Has anyone found a trick for doing this? Haynes book if lies says that the spring clips are quite strong and it has to be pushed out from behind, but obviously it's not in the most accessible area. Any help appreciated.

nope,its not easy....i tried everything and think in the end had the radio out iirc

hey, as I recall I removed one of the blank switch (button) things and it popped out from behind......
