keep getting the above fault code (every few days it comes back on after clearing it )and when i looked it up it comes up as:-

Possible Causes

  • Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor faulty
  • Oxygen Sensor Control faulty
    • Oxygen Sensor(s) faulty
  • Fuel Injector(s) faulty
Possible Solutions

  • Check Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor
  • Check Oxygen Sensor Control
    • Check Oxygen Sensor(s)
  • Check Fuel Injector(s)
my question is will this be a costly fix? . Its a 1.8 sport i have

thanks
Scott

Well with the MAF, you can just disconnect it and drive to see if it feels any different, if it feels the same it is ok.

The oxygen sensor fault, im not sure, but i know the S3 has 2 of them, its a case of finding which one is faulty if at all and go from there....

Best bet is to look on Euro Car Parts for prices on part or call your local TPS

That fault code comes up as:
17536/P1128/004392 - Fuel Trim; Bank 1 (Mult): System too Lean

(Ref: 17536/P1128/004392 - Ross-Tech Wiki)

this suggests you have a vacuum leak... probably a split PCV or other pipe under the inlet manifold..

thanks for the replys guys, how many hoses are there to check?

There are quite a few pipes there mate, so its a case of trial and error, if you can get a smoke test or a compression test done on the car, that will identify where the leak(s) are straightaway.

Ideally you are looking near the Inlet manifold, as the ones around here have a tendency to perish, due to the holt/cold treatment they get under the bonnet.
