new car...few probs

i've got a 2001 A3 1.8 non turbo and it has a few issues:-

1: when starting the car, it starts fine but theres a squeal for about 5 second, is this a belt slipping?
2: temp gauge doesnt really work, it has started to move a couple of times but always just goes back down.
3: rear wiper doesnt work at all and neither does the screenwash thing on the back.

thats all for now but i'm sure there will be more...

1. most likely, belt to left of engine. very very easy to change and self adjusting. does it do it more when damp? not sure if just replacing belt should fix it or if you need tensioner too. someone else with more experience can advise.
2. try CTS, then thermostat. do a search, lots of topics!
3. not sure on this one. does washer buzz in engine when you use it? or nothing at all? the pipes pop off quite often. not sure why not working, checked fuse?
