Sorry to see you move over to the dark side bud... although to be fair we had an 8P S3 in a little while back for a Revo and while still not as pretty as the 8L externally they are a very nice place to be and the Xenons are cool!!.. ;p

<tuffty/>

Why is it in the darkside Tuffy:crying: Thought bmw was the darkside haha

did'nt realise you were selling up, good to see you got good money for it though ,:bye:

LOL... well yeah... BMW's are the main reason I went BT... ****** ***** 335csi drivers! ;P

Don't get me wrong, 8P's are nice cars but the std 8P S3 doesn't look any different (to me) than an A3 Sportline... the 8L S3 is subtly different to the 8L A3 and has more presence...

But like I say thats just my personal opinion... I drive a 1.3 Mk2 Golf on original 13" wheels as a daily hack and would happily build myself a Mk1 Escort estate with a Cosworth (or more likely a 20v turbo) engine in it as thats what I like...

<tuffty/>

cheers matey...it is very nice, i think im still sprint/yellow biased, although seeing that white has possibly changed my thoughts - always think that white never looks really clean like my Dolphin did

totally agree mate, its a combination of age/mileage/newer styling thats made me want to change...oh and the small matter of DRL's ;)

Good look mate on finding a new car
I might be coming over sooner then later have to wait and see

i posted it on pistonheads (free bit) and the classifieds on ebay mate......chap that bought checked out pistonheads and got the detail and extra pics on ebay ;)

Awsome news.:applaus: Now you can jog on to the 8P section...:gaehn::yahoo:

I am really glad you can't read Repsmeg...... makes you far more fun to play with :)

This time i won't allude to anything, you can work out all by yourself why i will still be in the 8L section too

Happy to hear you've sold your S3 Tim, always sad when you see something you've taken good care of drive away:bye:

On a positive note, you've now got some extra cash for the 8P:yahoo:

Tuffty dont get my started got a White Focus RS by me taking the p*ss.
Haha get you give the 335 owners quite a shock now! Hopefully i can do the same by May:happy:
No i agree with you as much as i love the 8P S3 not many people can tell the difference between the S-line an S3. Only the bumpers give it away but most people still tell you its an A3 lol! Agree with you on the 8L S3 and 8L A3.

Naa im the same only want Sprint Blue, Imola Yellow or Merlin Purple (too rare though) they are top of my list. 8P S3 in Merlin looks beautiful one of the guys had one MTM tuned loved it.
Keep my eye out for you Fella:thumbsup: also please dont say any more about the DRL's i hate every A3/S3 owner i see with them! I want those headlights so bad:crying:

:bye: just watched my relationship with my S3 end as i watched it drive down the road..... gutted!!!
:blackrs4::sos: someones took my car!!! :bye:

Its the end of an era

*HOLY THREAD REVIVAL*

Unfortunately for Tim....it's not the end of an era. His pride and joy is back in Yorkshire :)

Sadly Tim....the boost issues are still apparent but I will be looking into this. Just to let you know, i am expecting a full turbo back stainless exhaust system for it....so she will be going in for a stage 2 map at some point (may possibly sort the boosting issues also).

I have many plans for her - subtle but effective mods. Watch this space :)

it's a silly grille, looks a bit like a bird with no nose. Potentially nice, but missing vital parts.....

Still, as we all know very well, this is a lovely car. Good to see it's back in with another Northern Monkey :p

Has the looks of a poxall IMHO

Thanks guys. You are all entitled to your own opinion and I knew I had no chance against all you 'OEM ringers' lol but if we were all the same....cars would be boring. I took a chance to go against the grain with the grille but carefully chose the closest to OEM. Some like, some don't. I like it, so its staying.

It is a very clean car, although the paintwork Tim had done is starting to show...may have to have it resprayed. But, performance and engine health comes first, so next up is major service and full miltek system :)

For the money id go custom 3" tbe mate i did.

Mornin all!!

Shaun, good to see it back in the promised lands! :D

TBF that front bumper never got 'flatrtened' properly before i let it go, is it that thats showing signs of chippage or the side paintwork? Ironically i dug out the old boost pipes for this only a couple weeks ago :)

Just remind me, the boost issue was the noise it made under boost as certain revs, as opposed to anything else? I solved every other problem regarding boosting through removing the N249 (is it?) and changing the TIP etc - so it didn't rough idle etc when it left me. (from memory)

Regardless, good luck with it, lovely car that - still miss it :(

Cheers Tim.

It's more the paint on the bumpers that is flaking due to poor prep work before paint was applied but the spray painters at work (perfectionists) tell me that the 1/4 panels look dull. May come out with a good machine polish though.

I've actually seen you about on the forums but stumbled across you by chance yesterday when i put the private reg into google (Thinking of selling the plate) and there you were. I had a read through your threads on the car to see if i can find abit of history on it as i knew it had some paintwork....checked with Audi and they told me the 1/4 panels did go in for the warranty paintwork, so i was confused as to why all the side was painted including the bumpers as only blends to the front doors would have been required.

The boost issue is more a lack in power at the moment (developed within my ownership) as it was ****** quick when i first got it. I suspect this is due to a knackered downpipe/cat converter as it's gradually got louder/throatier. It does have a slight boost leak type noise that can only be described as a faint scream when on full boost , so i'm going to check it out when i do the exhaust system and major service on it. Will let you know how i get on with that.

Unfortunately though, the guy you sold it to didn't look after it aswell as you did. There are a few bad points with it that i will be sorting in the near future.

I think your quite fortunate in seeing that amount of history mate :D

Yeah, IIRC, Audi only did one side of the roof rust problem (70% sure), it then went into a private shop as it was keyed down the passenger side, full length (Audi wanted silly money)...thats when i decided to have the bumpers done too. Interesting that its peeling though as I have M sport bumpers currently with the chap for painting! admittedly though and particulalry the lower side of the 1/4 panel did need flatting properly, only reason i didnt ask the old man that did the work was that it was going to be pro detailed (just never got around to it).

The scream never did any harm and i failed to cure it, suspect DP too and as there wasn't anything really reliable out there, other than OEM...i never touched it.

I tried selling the plate, unfortunately due to spacings, it doesn't look any good anymore :) and i lost patience :)

Did you buy it from a lad in the midlands? near Brum area (IIRC) - kid i sold it to?

check the pipe from the turbo to the charge pipe.
common to perish, mine had freyed ends so it wasnt sealing properly and it gave me a leak noise under boost.
other people have reported screaming noises and also whoopie cushion noises funnily enough, all from that pipe.

I had that pipe off....was perfect when i sold the car just over 18 months ago, cant see it being that at all....

If we are talking about the red boost pipe behind the heat wrap, i had that off the other day and still looks brand new. No cracks, splits or freying present.

Tim - FYI this boost leak/scream again has developed whilst in my ownership and wasn't there when i bought it.....which leads me to believe it's still downpipe related as they both came at the same time (leak noise/loss of power/louder exhaust note just behind the dash). Could be a gasket on the turbo thats blown possibly causing the faint scream on full boost? I'm going to check every single boost pipe when it's in....maybe even replace the job lot for upgraded silicone hoses :)

Tim - Clear your inbox :)

Replied about the mysterious boost scream in the post above.

Althought the paint job is a good job, certainly got the colour spot on it's just the lack of prep that let's it down really. If they had took the time to DA it all back and key it up properly then it would have lasted alot longer than it has. I still stand by the 'get what you pay for' when it comes to stuff like that where quality is key. But, i can totally understand your reasons for having it done where you did and to be fair, a full side paint plus a few other bits for that money is a steal.

Did you ever get an invoice from him or was it a cash in the pocket for a few beers at the weekend job? Did you ever get an invoice from Audi for the warranty work? When did you eventually take it into Audi?

I've had the plate valued at around £450 but it's just the hassle of putting it on retention and paying the DVLA fee's that's delaying it. But i do want shut of it as i want to get my own private plate, personal to me rather than the car.

I bought it off ebay from a bloke in Tenbury Wells/Leominster - Worcestershire.

haha i'll clear it....

Umm, it used to scream when on full boost with me, not always, not enough to discover a pattern other than roughly 3rd gear, from low down in the revs on full accel. The new owner knew about it as i drove it to MAKE it do it on his test drive (must be same chap).

I generally keep all invoices in the car binder, seem to think it had a receipt? the other work was an old dude in Sheffield, Treeton...John Chapman. It wasn't cash in hand type deal, but i didn't get a receipt either - he's been at it years, has own garage next to his house, full jig, baking facilities, everything - Im quite surprised its coming off. The only thing was that i used to use a lot of silicone based products (Werkstat) on the car and he struggled to make the paint stick - apparently you need an additional additive, which hadn't got at the time. That said, I used to work in sales at a dealership, money wasn't my main concern - my main concern was having someone recommended for their good work and not overpriced (insurance dictated menu), although saying that i wouldnt have paid £2k all things considered for a Bentley'esk job :)

Umm can i ask who valued it? i got it from the DVLA for £250 IIRC inc fee, advertised it and had no interest at all. When i bought it though, one of these clowns from the back of autotrader helped dream it up, and tried flogging it me for £1k! small part of me said, try the DVLA site, and there it was! :)

I had planned to go for a front mount, if your going stage 2, that'll be your best bet, everyone still using the TUFTY sourced FMICS on here? (cant rem the firm making them)

I was offered an AH fab intercooler setup with the exhaust system that i'm buying, but i just can't stretch to how much he wants. In my older days of Rover Turbo, you could use universal FMIC or even metal capped Transit/Sprinter I/C's. Sure a few VW boys still go down that route but my mate recommends getting a good quality one for the S3.

Had it valued by a few registration sites between £400-£500, just don't fancy paying £100+ to place it on retention, only to get no interest in it.

I think i will end up having it professionally resprayed when funds allow but main thing is to keep the engine mint and release a few more ponies via stage 2 :)

there was a lot of people fannying about few years back, the AH was defo a good solution due to the pipe diameters - unless you want to lose the fogs, its a PITA of a job - only one i would have used was the AH, that cos the Forge one was silly money....

yeah no offence but a lot of those places haven't the first clue i dont think - i think they value by licking their fingers and wiping the sky - oh you have a name on your plate, £40k :D

well the body is as straight as... i fitted a new number plate trim on the boot (common corrosion) - only complaint was the bottom door trims which were a little out of shape (although intact)

Yeah, most of these tuning companies are just the same. Very rarely you will get a company that has a true passion for the cars and is willing to offer great advice and some sort of discount to help you out. It goes a long way to do that for people and certainly builds a good reputation. I had a company like this when i was on the MG/Rover scene and it proved totally invaluable to have him not only as a mate to have a laugh with but also for when you needed him the most, he was there to help out with anything you needed.

I may see if the lad is willing to do me a better deal on the AH fab FMIC then if they are really worth it. Want to keep the exterior original and would like to keep my fogs.

Bo***cks timothy. When you going to stop p***ing around on the gay lord beemers bummers club and come back to the straight mans side and get another audi? hahah.

Alright Timmy ;)

Good to see you about on here again.

Straight line yes, handling, wise not a chance mate haha, youll be swallowing my blue smoke haha.

haha dont tell me you've managed to blow a turbo running factory boost!!?? PRe FL too!! man.... you need to take your 'plus' lessons :)

Umm, handling at the minute might not be too bad on my hearse, its took about a 50mm susp drop haha...virtually flat around corners :D Plans are to lift it up as i haven't got a full Usher album, and nor do i like driving with all my windows down - Standard
