Yeah it will work but from experience I would stick to cable and PC software, I know it might costs more but fault readers are just crap, an ebay cable with free/reg VCDS lite works much better IMO, plus u can log data, do adapations etc.
 
I used to have a usb to obd2 device. Paid about a tenner for it from ebay, downloaded the ross-tech software and it wouldn't connected to my car, just kept saying failed to connect.

Want a device where I don't need to carry my laptop round with me tbh

Pretty certain thats due to the cable comms port not set up properly. I've seen even the crappiest cable on ebay working.
Yeah its not too portable when a laptop is involved, but Im lucky to have a tiny little netbook :)
