8J ET35 Dani, so perfect for our A3.

They're actually identical to the bronze set we have aside from the colour. Will throw them on at some point and see how it looks with them white. if it's terrible I'll paint them

Quite looking forward to rose jointing the shift linkage, I've been considering it for a while, but never actually got around to it. it should be a fairly simple case of swapping them out and maybe adding / removing 1 or two washers at the box end to get the adjustment bang on.

Not sure with the shift throw whether to make an educated guess at a new position for the pivot point, or to get a bit more creative and make a slot so it can be infinately adjustable in both directions.

Exactly as jardo said yes mate. remove pump, get a non aircon belt from TPS, and just whack it on, the routing is pretty obvious and it works perfectly still

Surprisingly not that much Willy, peaks 21psi and slowly tapers off to the redline, holding around 17psi at 7k rpm.

that's not the turbo on it's limit though, there's still quite a bit of scope left on the N75 duty, and Niki did do some experimenting and it held over 22psi right to the top end quite happily.

I had a faulty N75 slowly failling a month or so back (Thanks Gops for the new one!) and oddly boost raised as it became lazy, and at one point i was peaking 24psi and holding 20psi at 7krpm, and it felt absolutely monsterous and AFR's were still in check.

I always intended to get back up to niki to finish off and fine tune the map (we never got to properly road test due to weather), but with the new TFSI developments that might not happen now, we'll see. Either way, it's bloody quick as is, and seems to return 340bhp happily on an independant dyno despite Niki making a few post map tweaks to stop it spiking.

I'm too soft though, I generally only drive it on low boost, making just over 300, as that's plenty fast enough to get me in trouble

That is surprising and goes to show how good the turbo, engine and mapping is to achieve such good power for so little boost. I have to boost more for less. Do you recon niki could get any more out of it with one of his TUV maps which appear to be doing well on his facebook page. Do you have facility to remote map with niki via email etc as it would be good to see what the upper limits of your setup is before you switch to the new monster tfsi setup. I recon the hybrid k04-02* with all the singing and dancing mods could creep into the 370bhp bracket.

There is no TIV to be had on the ME3.8 Ecu i'm afraid, which is partly why Niki has always found it easier to make the top end power figures from the AGU cars in the first place, because there is so much less intervention going on behind the scenes.

With a large port inlet manifold to really help it I think it's possible it could repeat the 350bhp runs reliably on any given day, but i think ultimately the 40mm hole through which it all gets squeezed is the limiting factor, even the 2871 eliminator hybrids seem to max out at 340genuine bhp, and Sams GT28 copy maxxed out at around 357bhp at 2 bar of boost when hung off a relentless manifold.

who knows, maybe a single 360bhp run could be achieved, but I don't think it could be sustainable, if it it were, I wouldn't expect the manifold, or turbine housing to last very long.

it's very much all about the flow though. mine ran slightly more boost with the stock cams, maybe 1-2 psi. How much of this drop is down to increased flow in, and how much is down to it just being blown down the exhaust on overlap I'm not sure.

I'd really love to see what the hybrid could be made to do absolutely flat out, just for a laugh, but such is the time and cost involved with repeated trips up to R-tech, that it's just not viable.

totally superb piece of engineering. Gonna keep a sharp eye on this one!

for the record.. Sams boost is 26psi for its 357bhp and the relentless was choking the crap out of it at that level.

Ah, cheers for clearing that up Bill, I thought it was 357 at 2 bar. My mistake I remember you doing a 2 bar run at some point during the mapping and saying the relentless 40mm throat was absolutely killing it.

Spoke to Dan last night, and things are still progressing. Looking to get it all on and running asap after inters with any luck

higher boost did nothing other than choke it more and get it even hotter..
will be interesting to see the difference the T25 manifold makes to it...
hopefully return some of its missing timing the relentless caused to not be possible

Very true, but it is interesting how its bigger brother performs in comparison with no loss of spool.

I'm looking forward to see any gains with Sams setup on a different manifold.

Edit:- I now have little turbo syndrome and feel the need to pick arguments with the BT guys.

Bad luck guys, maybe I'll get the lucky page 100 with this one

    Extended shifter fitted last week:

Already posted a few pages back, but here's another pic!

It felt amazing being so high up, but the extended stick made the throw too long, so I set about fixing that today.

The stock shift tower had a lever arm of 50mm from pivot to pull, and the TT short shift I was running had this dimension reduced to 42mm. I decided to reduce it by the same amount again, and drilled my new hole at 34mm.

I forgot to get pics at this point, and bolted it up, and found that the rose joint fouled on the shift weight when trying to get into 2nd and 4th.

I started by trimming the side of the weight away, until it almost cleared, then realised I had a spare anyway, so why not experiement further, and just cut the whole shift weight off!

I'd had a long chat with a chap (Becks - if you're reading this ) at Ace cafe who'd done the same a while ago, and reported no loss of feel, so I just went for it:

This reduced the fore and aft throw very nicely indeed, and with a small amount of adjustment it feels bang on. I'm yet to go for a drive, but the lever action doesn't feel like it's suffered without the shift weight. if I don't like it I've got another, so nothing lost.

With the fore / aft adjustment sorted, it was still a little long left / right, so I ground down the back of teh press fit stud on a spare lever arm, and pressed out the old stud, to stop it getting in the way, then re-drilled a new hole further down, shortening the side to side throw of the lever in car.

    And all fitted:

Lever throw now feels exactly as it did previously, but another 4'' higher up, much closer to the steering wheel.

Just going to swap the wheels over to the white ones, then go for a drive

Looks good, Nick. Keen to see the new wheels on - as much as it screams ChavMobile white rims are a bit of a guilty pleasure for me (braces self for out of context quoting...) :P

We're going to have to wait a while to see it on the white rims I'm afaid folks!

    Tyres not big enough.

We bought them for the rims, knowing the tyres were on the small side at 205/40/17. The tyres were a bonus, and we had hoped to run them over summer to keep it rolling, but I think I've given up on that plan.

I tried a 15mm spacer, which gave it a nice width, but the 40 profile tyre just wasn't big enough to fill the arches at all:

And a comparison against my usual 235/45 Vreds, on the same spec rim (8J ET35)

Boo Yoko parada spec 2 tyres for sale!

Gearshift feels fantastic after a little test drive, really nice short throw, but very high up, and it slips into gear perfectly still with the shift weight cut off, so happy days.

I also extended the reverse collar up on a new bit of cable so it's easy to use still. Could do with another cable and raising it another 20mm, it's a stretch here, but I couldn't find a bit of cable long enough.

Ah denied. Still, something else to play with on a rainy day. How's the reverse collar held at the correct height when not in use on that setup dude? Pic on the previous page looks as though it's usually at the bottom of the shaft (oo-er missus) so assuming you've just got something to stop it from sliding back down lined up?

Minor cheeky off-topic one for you too: Does the (g/s)/0.8 trick work as a general rule for 1/8ts, or is that just for those with a larger (80mm) MAF? Be nice to know roughly what power the Leon is producing and finally got around to setting up logging earlier so have the raw data.

Believe it or not R'bird, the lift collar is held there purely by the rigidity of the gear cable it pulls

gs/0.8 trick works for any stock scaled MAF in a 1.8T yes (so S3 with stock 80mm maf, LC with stock 70mm maf, or even an LC with 80mm maf so long as it's scaled correctly in the map), also applies to other VAG stuff.

Should be seeing somewhere around 144g/s on yours, anything from 140 is fine I'd say, and wouldn't be surprised if it made 150 ish.

Cool, thanks for the info. 154 g/s earlier which would put it at around 195ish. Assuming that's probably a tad higher than actual power so I'd be surprised if that's quite right but since the car feels like it's running well I've no reason to suspect the MAF is dodgy or anything. Shall do a few pulls tomorrow and see if that's a one-off or if it's semi-consistent.

Pretty cool with the collar. Wouldn't have thought it'd be held firmly enough but if it seems to be staying where it's supposed to be it's a winner. Very cool bit of kit and good to see you've managed to tweak it to suit so well.

yea, being alloy the collar weighs almost nothing, and brake cable as you know is reasonably stiff along it's length, so holds it there perfectly!

154g/s is good going for a stock car mate, many stage 1 maps are only in the 160's. Sounds like a good strong car

Just time for one last slightly controversial mod before bed time.

    Can you see it?

I'm undecided on this one fully. Since the crash I've been 100% sure the car needs something doing about the rear end, which gets incredibly light at high speeds (100mph+) and doesn't inspire confidence always. It's more probably down to the 65/35 weight distribution, which without adding lead in the back, isn't likely to change dramatically.

It's just an experiement really, and may well be removed for road use and just added for trackdays, but initial impressions are that it doesn't look as bad as I expected it to, but I'm not sold 100% on if I like it or not.

Part of me wonders if it's too big and looks chav, or whether I get away with it because of the rest of the car, Dad wonders if it's too small, he expected a bigger one

How much difference it'll make remains to be seen, but we'll be trying it at our next track day for sure, and hopefully, it'll regain some of the high speed stability that the car always had as a full weight road car.

Who knows, we'll see how it goes!
