Hi prawn, i know your the guy to go to for advice, iv been offerd two lcr hubs for £70 and the two wishbones for £70 and £50 for the lcr quick rack, is this a good price for 2nd hand in good condition and how easy is it to fit all of the above myself or how much do you think a garage should charge? Thanks for any help and advice.

Winter is here, and it's miserable!

Now that I've got the Rotas, I've been able to take the TT rims and use them as winter wheels on the daily.

I managed to pick up a set of fairly budget tyres, brand new on ebay, for just £101!

I went up to my mate Bruces last night, and fitted the tyres, Bruce was busy, so he showed me how to do the first one, then I did the rest myself, quite enjoyable actually

So, here it is, the daily, on it's winter rims:

17x7.5J TT 6 spokes, spaced 17mm front, and 20mm rear giving ET15 front, and ET12 rear, with 205/45's

Pretty happy with them, they look fairly good I think, it's a bit different, and it's all good and legal now for the winter months.

With that done, I set about curing the nasty rattle I've had in the exhaust for months, I took a gamble on a toyosports exhaust back in April, and to be honest, it hasn't paid off, as it developed a rattle within a few months. I couldn't send it back, as I'd had to modify it hugely to fit my car anyway.

I tracked the rattle down to being inside the centre box, so today I whipped the centre section out, and cut it open:

With the flap opened up, it was pretty apparent what was causing the rattle!

    Cheap nasty ****

Rather than try and weld the tube back into place, I decided to just rip it all out, so I emptied the box of all it's cladding, and the broken perforated tube, and welded it back up again. excuse the awful welding, I've not used the welder myself since last christmas, and welding thin stainless with mild steel wire is not something I'm good at!

Welded up, and linished down, I gave it a few coats of VHT silver paint, to stop the mild steel weld rusting on the stainless box:

Refitted it after going into town with Tori, and all is well. the rattle has gone, the sound hasn't changed that much, so I'm happy.

that's half a day spent on the daily this quarter, so that'll do! Will get back to the track car again asap

Mine are different to yours westy! These are the ones I had in silver for years, then in orange on the track car, then finally in black.

Pats right, it's amazing the difference wheels make, here's a comparison shot:

Are you sure our 17s aren't the same? They look the same to me but I'm not a wheel whore like you

It is amazing what a set of wheels can do to a cars appearance. Also the contrast of the silver S4s to the black TTs makes such a big difference too!

definitely not the same mate, yours have a kinda sharp lip at the edge, whereas mine go smoothly into the edge of the rim,

here they are in orange many moons ago: you can see the shape difference compared to yours here:

In a slightly different move to the usual, I've just bought myself a small port inlet manifold to replace my large port!

It turns out, my original plan to fit AUM injector seats into an AGU inlet manifold wasn't going to work, due to differing thread sizes. I'm sure this COULD be overcome with some machining, but this isn't something I wanted to have to do at the moment, so I decided to try another route. Big thanks to tufty for checking this out for me on the AUM/AGU sizes.

I figured that Welly and Tufty have been running small port inlets on large port heads, seemingly with no adverse effects, so I decided that the easiest way to fit my genesis 550's was to run a later style small port AUM/AUQ inlet.

As per Paul and Welly I'll run a phenolic gasket and port it across the transition.

Injector fitment sorted, and all for £35

Should have the VR6 MAF housing sorted now as well.

Having a massive sale over xmas of just about everything we own to get this funded and finished asap now,

Got an AEM WMI kit lined up, toyosports massive FMIC core, going to replace all the FMIC pipes with 63 instead of the 51mm it's got, going for a gizzmo EBC to allow us to run variable boost too.

Only thing I'm stumped on: KO4 oil and coolant lines, anyone got any they fancy selling me?

Starting straight after the new year Karl, I've got a week off at the start of Jan, so I plan to spend that ripping it all apart, cleaning and painting everything that's had 200k of use, then start putting it back together and seeing what I'll need to refab for the ko4.

Should get it back together and running by the end of Jan, then I'll talk to Bill about mapping

OK, so I think I might have been a bit hasty buying this small port inlet manifold, as I've just found these on USRT:

Have short injectors and the fuel rail doesn't reach down far enough? (e.g. Genesis 550cc in AEB/AGU or 16v). The Genesis "Unspacer" is your solution. These slip on top of short injectors and seal against the o-ring. The Unspacer itself has an o-ring on top that seals inside the fuel rail.
Unspacer [INJUNSPACER] - $10.00 : USRT, Usually Sideways Rally Team

at $40 per set + shipping it seems silly not to do this I think

Money my dear man, and the knowledge that it could be sorted with a small port inlet if nothing else came up.

Also, I was under the impression at the time that AUM seats could be screwed into the AGU inlet, and I've only just found out this wasn't possible after Tufty did some testing for me.

Knowledge on ~550cc AGU/AEB injectors seems pretty limited to be honest. and Bill has proved on Steves setup that 440cc injectors arn't up to it.

At the time, the genesis 550's were retailing at £400 for a set! and we paid a lot less than that

I think standard AGU injectors are 206 or 231cc, I've read varying reports.

standard injectors are OK for 99% of ko3S stage 2 setups yes mate.

You get some odd mappers who claim they can't do it, and some freaky cars like jardo's that run too much boost and max out the injectors leading to all kinda of trouble, but generally they're absolutely fine.

Typically you need 380's for a ko4 setup, and 550s for a ko4 hybrid from what I've gathered.

The worksheet on this page will give you a useful guide:

    RC Fuel Injection

It recommends at least 500cc/min for 300hp, not exceeding 80% duty.

Thanks Kev, handy page that one. I don't know much about the brake specific consumption aspect of it, but it confirms my thoughts that I need 550cc injectors for what I want, ultimately when the engine has forged rods we will be aiming for 320bhp or so, so there is some headroom in them still.

Welly tried the astra VXR injectors which are claimed to be 470cc, but tehy maxed out straight away.

BSFC of 0.5 is fine. I dont think modern engines end up at 0.6 or higher as that page suggests.

I think the ratings for those VXR injectors might be out, or they're rated at a different fuel pressure.

If they really were 470cc, then they're ~23% larger than the standard S3 injectors.

Given the standard S3 injectors can manage ~270hp, the VXR's should have managed 330ish. I dont know what welly managed to get out of them, but his final figure was around 330hp and he needed bigger injectors to get those figures.

Yup, welly did indeed need bigger injectors for his final figure of 338bhp, and it's those very injectors which I now own.

So far, nobody with a hybrid has come even close to matching Wellys results, but as of yet, noboby has built the exact same setup, something has been different every time, manifold, head port size, compression ratio, FMIC size, etc etc.....

Mine will be pretty much identical in every way (same turbo, manifold, downpipe, FMIC, full AGU engine with higher CR and large port) so hopefully I stand the best chance of replicating his success!

VR6 MAF housing paid for this morning, so hardware wise, all that's left is the TIP from Bill and a downpipe before I can bolt it all up and get it running on actuator pressure to see if it's going to work!

Will probably fit the VR6 MAF housing, and temporarily throw on a 4 bar FPR with stock injectors just to get it running and idling so I can put a few miles on it.

obviously I wouldn't dream of running it full throttle even on actuator, but if previous setups are anything to go by, it should make a max of 230bhp on actuator pressure, and the AGU injectors can provide fuel for 230bhp with a 3 bar FPR, so with the 4 bar in to gain some headroom it should be fine. Still wouldn't risk full throttle though, just want to put miles on it to test it out before mapping, to hopefully avoid all the problems Bill has had with previous cars that arrive with him untested and end up requiring loads of corrective work!

What is the max power the 3bar FPR will give you, roughly?

Bob, I'm sure you've seen these.

Surely they are next after the hybrid?
I quite often say I'm going to do things.

    Then never do them.
