quick question re; charcoal canister

my mate has a tt and he has been describing a loud ticking from around the coolant bottle.

I remember reading that this is the charcoal canister/ filter. iv never had any experience of this with my s3. just wanted to confirm that this is the norm or if there is an easy fix for it?

is replacement the only way to get rid of the noise?
presumably it could just happen again on the replacement though.

I think they all tick, make sure the pipe is not split by the connector, common problem
