Hi ive just purchased a audi s3 facelift 2002 plate with the 225 bam engine . There seems to be a whining noise in the lower gears and it seems to get worse when i change down gears for engine breaking etc. There is no noise if i hold the clucth back . Ive noticed when the car is stationary when running there is a slight wirring noise but it goes when i push the clucth in could this be the cluch release bearing ? The car has done 76k miles . And help on this would be great .

if it whines whilst the pedal is out and goes when the pedal is pressed down its a good indication that the release bearing is on its way out but i dont think you would be able to hear the bearing whilst driving along the road so could be a bearing inside the gearbox.
