Fitted a rad today but now not getting any heat through heaters and car is overheating .. Aparently an airlock ??

Not enough water I reckon... no need to bleed the cooling system... just run engine up to temp and top up the expansion tank (once cooled enough to remove the cap without burning yourself).... expansion tank is the highest point of the system so air 'should' end up there...

<tuffty/>

Rang a audi specialist before he said could be water pump :-/ even though that one is less that 5k old .. Not having much luck at all with this car !!

Was it doing this before the rad was fitted because if not i cant see it being the water pump as above brim the expansion tank and run it with the cap off. Hold revs about 2k neutral dont drive it.

Nope ran spot on before hand .. We've drained it .. Left it running for 20 mins .. Pumped the pipes etc .. Might be an air lock though ??

Keep trying it but it is important to fill the expansion tank right to the top as the weight of the extra water will help force the air out. If your still not having any luck unbolt the tank and raise it higher with a block of wood or simalar to keep it raised but i have never had to do this and iv drained mine a fair few times now.

So chances are it's not the water pump then ?? So just keep the car running and keep topping the tank up ??

Im not saying its not the waterpump but as it wasnt doing it before i think its unlikely for it to have broken up at the same time. While running it keep the tank full up and ypu should see the air escaping what i do is run it till the fan kicks in three times works for me everytime.

Update ....
Tried to bleed it again still no luck .. Has anyone had an airlock that won't budge ??

I have had airlocks before but on cars without the header tank as tufty said its the highest point so as long as you follow the correct procedure as mentioned the air should be forced out easily. If its not working then as the specialist said it could be the waterpump which will mean more money if you take it to the specialist they should be able to tell if it is the waterpump before doing anything to the car so id do that and go from there.

Manually bleed it by partialy removing coolant pipes high on the engine make sure you have the cap off the header tank so that you do not have any pressure.

Waterpump :-/ .. Typical just before Christmas .. Making like a rattle from timing side at 2000 rpm :-( .. Glad I've got mates though £80 supplied and fitted :-D

Do the cambelt at the same time if i were you unless it was done 5k ago with the last pump .... also make sure it's metal impellar type of water pump... those plastic ones are gash

Belt and pulleys done last time .. Yep how much is a pump ?
