Air con problem wont turn on ?

My audi a3 1.8t air con wont turn on,mabie cos its -3 outside ????
when i push the button it comes up with the air con sighn but when i take my finger off it goes off if i hold my finger on the sighn stays on but its just not kicking in the air con any help please ?

It switches off the aircon pump at temps. under 5 deg.

no it switches off at +5 degrees not -5

think hes just paranoid due to the amount of additional stress involved in owning an audi which probably been on long service , weve all been there
