    charge pipe baffle

Evening all, so today i replaced my dv for my shiny new bailey dv30 (thanks welly, it was as simple as you said), after i did it i was a bit bored so took off the charge pipe as i remembered people had removed the baffle from the end. Now i didnt take mine out, yet, but just wondered what diffrence it makes, if any like noise spool etc etc?
    Cheers, Dave.

In the end of the stainless (i think) hard pipe from the turbo which goes to the front left corner, on the turbo end there is another wall inside the pipe which is like a perforated metal cylinder, the baffle. At least thats what i think it is anyway.

Makes more noise mainly guys to be honest.

I thought that mine spooled up a little faster, but the change was marginal. Felt mildly quicker from the slightly increased spool.

    The noise is nice though

    Worth doing IMO.

Tools required, large hammer and chisel & patience.

Be careful when hitting the baffle that you don't punch through the outer metal.

I'm sure there was a how to guide somewhere...

Did anybody make a pipe that slides inside the baffle instead of removing it?

Well the baffle is now removed but only because i'm impatient and we didnt have any tube to line the end so it was attacked with the die grinder and lots of hammer and chisel lol. Quite surprising how big the baffle was TBH, its made up of lots of discs with holes between it all, Unsure if it was restrictive, but it does sound a bit nicer now and i dont know if its just the placebo effect but it does seem to be a bit more responsive now aswell.

I was going to, however Forge now make one. I think I'll end up buying one of the Forge ones and paint it black.

People on SCN are saying that the Forge pipe gives quicker spool and increased noise so I'd like to try it however, there are a number of complaints about the pipes being scratched to death, looking as if they have been fitted before and that the DV & N75 hose nipples protrude into the pipe and airflow.

They're currently out of stock but looks like the next batch will be ready in January .

I'm looking to get one of these within a couple months. I have a Liquid Gauge in the car, what readings would i have to look at to see what difference it has made? I'd really like to do a before and after to see any improvements.

Probably Mass Air Flow, and Boost would be the two ones that are most useful based on what we are looking for.

VAG COM blocks 002 and 118 for those with it.

I'd save some pennies and remove the baffle out of your oem one and while its off polish it up, in fact that could be my next weekends job i think.

Both are possible with a registered copy of 409.

With the shareware version, you will be able to log up to block 025 IIRC, so 002 will work for you.

When you say log how what exactly does it involve, might sound a daft question but i can only just about manage to check & clear faults lol, cheers.

No, we're looking more for spool time before and after. Peak boost should remain a constant regardless, as it is ECU/N75 controlled, and the charge pipe isn't a factor in this.

The interesting factor would be if it actually aids spool time, and whether peak boost comes in earlier. Graph mode on the liquid would be more useful than the gauge mode for this.

I'd describe it as a more pronounced whistle from the turbo, at low load its not really noticeable but on full chat it does sound better, not too over the top & chavvy IMO.
