Fantastic, thanks! I though as much as the revs drop when you press it...

Re: What does the \'Econ\' button do?

i'm gonna keep the econ button pressed (ie keep the aircon off) over winter ... seeing as it will help MPG and its not like i need to cool the outside air anyway.. cold enough out there!

Re: What does the \'Econ\' button do?

Turning 'on' the Econ button turns 'off' the compressor. This means the air con cannot introduce 'dry & cold' air into the passenger space.

This means:

1. Better economy.
2. No forced cooling.
3. No forced reduction in humidity e.g. If its cold and damp you may find your windows still steam up.

I don't know if this is true or not, but I was alwasy led to believe that if your car has aircon you should run it at least every week or couple of weeks.

If you don't, then the seals in the compressor can perish and you can lose the refrigerant gas - meaning you'll have to pay 100 for a recharge.

Not sure if that makes sense - but I'm sure I read it somewhere.

Re: What does the \'Econ\' button do?

Lets not forget that the Air-con compressor switches off when the outside temperature is less than 5 degrees C, you know this when the 'ice' symbol won't stay on, no matter how many times you press the 'Auto' button. Also, it's a good idea to turn the compressor over every now and then, to prevent it from seizing which is an expensive fix!

I leave my compressor on all the time - doesn't seem to use any (noticable!) fuel, and it means the windows never mist up, and drys my nasty sweaty hands too (oohh errr)

As for this 'eats the fuel' thing, I've ran it it both positions and noticed no difference!

I mean, over 260-300 miles are you really going to notice 5 miles here or there extra??

Re: What does the \'Econ\' button do?

Oh, one more thing I forgot to mention, the compressor also switches off under full throttle, so most of us that drive our cars 'properly ' won't notice a difference in fuel consumption - that should clarify things

Quality. A car that thinks for you!

Heres me turning the ac off to gain that extra 3bhp when going up the 1/4mile! It does it all for me instead!
