splitting and refurbing standard avus centre caps?

i have just bought some refurbished avus'.
They are finished in a similar colour to the very centre of the cap (light gunmetal)

the only downside to these is that the inner of the centre caps, ie; the audi logo bit. are not in very good nick.

Looking at the back of the centres when removed, it looks like they have little tabs which would allow them to be split. has anybody tried this?
 
give it a try, im sure you can buy some more from audi if they break
 
very true mate, iv got two sets to play with so ill start on the not so good ones and see what happens. was just curious to see if anybody had any experience doing it.

cool, thats the confidence i needed! ill be having a go.

Im assuming you just pry them apart using a precision screw driver or similar?
 
I've done this, the small plastic tabs that held them on broke so had to superglue the Audi rings back on. Either way the centre cap looks as new and the rings arent going anywhere :)
