Decat - Will I be limping home for 3 weeks?

    Hey guys,

Massive newbie questions once more - 2002 1.8T AUM is booked in for Stage 1 with RTech in 3 weeks, flexpipe is leaking so ordered a decat 3" DP. RTech say to fit it ASAP, car won't go into limp mode but will have an engine management light on. They also said they'll map out the cat for no extra cost - brilliant!

So far my experience with RTech is they know their stuff, but I'd be interested to chat to someone about the decat and what happened before/after map. I'm terrified of screwing up my car, Dad is helping me out in a big way to fit stuff but his experience is older cars. Exhaust stuff is pretty basic mechanical knowledge though, I don't foresee huge problems.... Right?

Thanks to Prawn and Welly for their advice so far.xxx

    Hello,
Ive fitted a 3 inch downpipe and decat.
The second ( post cat ) was turned off when i had the car mapped a while before.
So i can not realy tell you if you would hit limp mode every time. BUT i did run with a dead lambda sender for about a month , The car didnt hit limp mode but didnt run to its full potential.
    Is your car a 2wd or 4wd?
The down pipe is a bit of a pig to get off/ out on an 4wd unless the car is highish on stands or a ramp/pit

I ask questions because i change my mind so much. If i ask questions you have already covered... just leave it be?

It will all be fine...As long as you get me to fit it.

The hardest part is going to be separating the exhaust from the cat back and getting hands and fingers around the housing flange to get the old downpipe off.

It wont go into a limp mode, but it will throw up an engine check light.

It will however be loads louder, and you'll get a LOT more whooooooosh. Which is lets face it, the aim of the game. I mean, why have a whistle if nobody can hear it

I say all of that, does anybody know how the exhaust joins from the cat back? Is it a clamp and a friction fit or is it a flanged fitment?

    X

I quite often say I'm going to do things.

    Then never do them.
