gearbox oil (will this be ok?)

Sorry I can't answer your question, but I always go to 'TPS' and get the original Audi gearbox oil. It's not expensive.

same here. easier life. just get what vag put in there because VAG are not particularly open about the spec of fluid that goes in there

ok cool, thanks, its just what opie recommend,

oh and my local audi dealer is 40 miles away, could i get it from a vw garage?????

great the vw garage is 5 mins down the road so that will save me a bit of time and money lol.

cheers guys

fantastic... when you gonna be racing it?

Is it a hard procedure to replace the gearbox oil? How much on average would a specialist charge? (thinking of doing this next service if it's not a massive job)

Very easy,

Jack car up (level)
Remove filler/level plug first (just encase you can't get it undone before you drain the oil)
Undo drain plug, and drain oil. Put plug back in or run some new oil through first, then re-fit plug.

Two ways to refill use a pump or pump bottle from low level, or do what I did. Use a hose and funnel above the engine bay and route the hose into the filler plug and re-fill.
If you have a 6 speed box buy 3 litres you may not need it all.
You know when it is full because it comes out the filler/level plug. Do filler plug back up.

bought all my oils and away to change both engine and gearbox oil today, new strut top mounts, new denso spark plugs, new fuel filter..... just wish my lowering springs had arrived yesterday....!!!

busy busy day, just hope it doesnt rain AGAIN!!!!!!! lol

F*ckin scotland for you... lol

Hi, i think i may have been lied to my local mechanic, just booked my 1999 18.T in for an oil, filter and strainer change asked about the gearbox oil an he said its a sealed unit cant be changed. Its done 94K

It can be done very easily, would take a mechanic minutes to do. Although it would be alot easier for you to do, the mechanic doesn't fill me with hope.

If you saw the crap that comes out, you would defiantly want the oil changed, I don't care what people say it does need changing. Oil still degrades....
