Hi all. Im sooo tempted to strip out my S3 and put a cage in. Not sure i have the balls to do it, but i cant find any cages online. Anyone know who may do 1 for the A3/S3???
Anyone else done this?
Anyone know what the rear seats and stuff weigh???

There was somebody enquiring about it months back on this site. i dont think he came up with anything, maybe worth searching the site. If your going to do it itd probably be best to get a custom jobby i would imagine. All the rolled s3's i have seen pictures of seemed to come off pretty well which is reassuring!

Yea mate I know a few guys who have done this but they all drive saxos! lol

Sorry mate couldn't resist, If your intending using your S3 as a regular track car then a cage might be worth while, a proper one may well save your life one day, if so worth every penny. If you were to get a full cage & not just a half/rear one it should increase the chassis rigidity some what aswell. I have a funny feeling that because the saxo crew seem to have turned cages into a styling mod these days there will be a few shity ones out there so best buy from a reputable company preferably with a racing pedigree.

They can be bad in a road car having lots of things to hit your head on!

For track with helmets they are the best place to attatch harnesses when fitting propper seats

In a word.....don't.

The resale value will be zero once you've hacked the car around to fit one,and anything other than a full,welded in cage(done by a professional,and not some hacker) will be of questionable value.

One of my previous cars was an ex GpN Escort Cosworth,with no rear seats and a full cage amongst other things,and it was immensely strong and rigid,but unless you've had one,you can't begin to picture the impracticalities.
Mine found it's way back into rallying once I'd enjoyed it for afew yrs,but don't do it as a retrofit to a raod car and expect to sell it later.

Thats the thing. Im doing more trackdays now and i only drive it on the road once in a blue moon. Its got 71k on the clock and is very clean car so i dont want to ruin it but..... A stripped out s3 with a cage and good suspension setup is a ****** good track weapon.

If your turning it into a track car then your probably not going to be to fussed about resale. I would strip the entire interior and sell that on i.e. front seats, rear bench, door cards, parcel shelf. Removing the front seats will be a hugh weight saving. I think you'll either need to go custom and look at finding a company that build them to race body classification/approval (i.e. FIA). Personnelly if you going down this route i'd think about selling your current S3 and buying an older model with lower value as theres a potential to wreck your S3 on the track

I think that mk1chopper's advice is very sensible,in that buying another S3 and using that may be a better and in the long run,cheaper option.

The weight savings can be very significant when the seats,trim,air-con etc are all gone,and I would reckon my Escort was down by a good 100kg over a standard road model.

Again though,as mk1 has said,you would need to get a proper cage fitted and welded in by someone who builds race cars,as many of the bolt-in jobs are quite poor.
