    The back end stepped out today and i liked it!!!

    Hi all

    I was at a junction today and got sick of waiting so i booted it and the back end stepped out quite neatly then corrected its self very well. I thoroughly enjoyed it i was wondering if there's a way i can make it happen when i want it to or was it just due to a dip in the road.

    Also what is the ratio of 4wd when it occurs

    i think its 50 /50, no more than that to the back, it is fun though, just a quick step out, helped by the short wheelbase too. i do it regularly turning right onto a dual carraigeway, im about half way round and then full power with esp off. goodto test it to learn how the car behaves, or misbehaves

    unfotunately most the time its 100% front wheel drive and when it feels the back needs some power its 70/30. you can get aftermarket haldex controllers which give 50/50 and are apparently a big improvment. bit pricey for me though mind

    Mine used to do that when I had 235 contis on the front and 225 falkens on the back, now its got 225 pilots all round it won't do it out of junctions anymore : ( Can still make it drift a bit on a wet roundabout but you've got to power through the initial undeersteer first & make sure you've got a bit of run off lol

    Only time I ever managed it was at Christmas time with all the snow and ice! Got proper sideways on a roundabout accidentally, the girlfriend was panicking but I loved it! As it was snowing hardly anyone was on the road!
    I'd love to upgrade haldex controllers, does it give permanent 50/50?

    Its pretty easy on a wet/greasy road, if your in 1st or 2nd with the esp off and the boost cuts with at the start to mid corner it will step out nicely. Not as well as my last RX8 but thats just the crappy haldex.

    pulling out of a junction in the wet is great fun ! its so easy to get the rear wheels spinning & off you snake down the road

    when i had my a3 quattro the back end stepped out promptly followed by the car spinning then hitting a barrier writing off the car.... i didnt like it

    Dammm this thread makes me want my Supra back lol, that was a beast at pulling away from lights sideways and drifting

    However after driving it all winter, ill be glad of a 4 wheel drive car in the snow lol, got stuck toooo many times in the Supra.

    The S3 just isnt the same

    I can think of loads of cars that have power (if not more) that will allow you to play silly games so why choose an S3 with it's advanced safety features ?
    02 plate - 2002 - 225bhp - S3 - Ming Blue - completely standard - nuff said, OK there's a centre armrest, sunroof, BOSE speakers & black leather recaros, oh and the non OE chrome pack !

    No it doesn't

    It still drives like a FWD most of the time but you really does feel like a 4WD car when you floor it

    Yet to try it in anger with my new engine

    My thoughts exactly. If you want to get the arse end out then you need a RWD car, preferably an old one with skinny tyres and soft shocks. If you want to be able to use all the power available in all (or most) road conditions, then you want a 4WD.

    mine is tail happy in the wet. haldex can be a bit snappy. I launched it the other day and felt the rear stepping out which was a strange feeling. Over steer = tears
