knocking sound when going over potholes humps

MY a3 has strated making a knoking sound when going over humps and pot holes there is a slight noise coming from the front but somtimes get a very loud knock from the back i have changed the rear top mounts the arbs look ok has any1 else had this problem

bit silly, but are your tyre pressures correct?

yes there correct could this knocking be caused by worn rear axle bushes

What sort of A3, T Sport or Quattro?

Check that the front ARB plastic collars (assuming it's an original ARB) haven't fallen apart. All your exhaust mounts are ok as well?

its a 2002 standard a3 tdi 130 SE arbs have been checked and seem ok

ok thanks il have to have a look i have asked a VAG speailist and he thinks rear axle bushes but will ask him to check the other stuff

Knocking sounds are usually bushes, previous car was a Ford and that is their most common problem.
