Hi guys,

Recently had a knocking sound from the front suspension. The steering has felt off for a while, as my last few threads showed and think it's probably down to front wishbone bushes. I've also recently had a new spring fitted at the front.

Now the car has FASH and I know that doesn't really count for much any more, however, I'd like to keep it up.

So what do we reckon the bill will be? Leaking rear shocks, poss same at the front, bushes at the front, poss springs - other than that, should be all running smoothly as engine feels perfect!

This is more of a "place bets now" thread, as I have MOT protection worth 750.

What do we reckon?

I'm going with £630. I know the front shocks are £~80 each, and I believe rears are around £50.

On top of the 750£ of MOT cover yeah? They were my thoughts. Fitting @ 80/hr + alignment + parts etc.

yeh thats what I mean..!!

My car has FASH.. but I have just had my cambelt done elsewhere and saved £300!
Thats no bad thing.

It will be going to the dealer for its next oil service though, which by the way is on offer for £99 ;)

You got to be crazy to pay a dealer £800 for 4 shocks

Compare dealer part prices to GSF. Then ask your indy how much labour to change all 4.

I just changed all 4 shocks, fitted Eibach springs and replaced the rear trailing arm bushes on my M3 and it came to around £200 labour.

Cheers, BKZ. The oil service and brake fluid change are booked in for £99 and £49 respectively.

My thought process was, there is £750 of MOT protection on the car. So might as well use that. If that gets it through the MOT, I'll have the rest of the work done somewhere else. But having said that, I've haggled for £80 per hour and if anything goes wrong, they know I'll be on to Audi UK etc etc. Just might be worth it for a minimal outlay.

what is MOT protection? some sort of warranty? will they actually pay out?

yeh you'll get a stamp ;)

they have some requirements tho that it must be under 2.0 and be over 4 years old or something along those lines

Hmmm, OK, well good news and bad . . .

It passed!!! And they cocked up on the service. I told them I wanted an interim service @ £99 and brake fluid change @ £49 - however, they've done a full service - muppets! Not paying for it, and they can't exactly take it back!

However, the shocks were only advisories, so were corroded rear brake lines and the corroded rear springs... meaning the MOT protection doesn't cover it... So is it time for B8s and H&Rs??!!

They did this with me. Stuff which they advised 12 months earlier I left to get done due to the MOT protection cover yet somehow when the mot came back around it passed no problem !

Well well. Stealers for a reason. They have decided I can have the service for £200, but arguing the toss over that. They've said either pay £200 or have the new parts (sparkers, filters etc) removed and replaced with my old (undoubtably dusty/dirty) items!!!!!! Where do they get this **** from?? Told them I'd pay for the sparks/filter costs, but not the extra £££ for the man hours they wasted.

That is extremely unimpressive to be fair - not good.

What you planning? I've just ordered my own service stamp last night from the web. I do it all myself anyway, so I though sod it, why not!

Its a bit crap that they've cocked up and not done what you've asked for, but on the other hand also £50 extra for the plugs and air and pollen filters aint bad either.

Well the total came to 220 in the end. With quick maths it's 72 more than I asked for (49 BFC and 99 serv). So not bad. Just shows that if you kick up a fuss, you get your way.

On a similar note, full marks to Richard Clough, Business Director of Stockport Inchape Audi.

omg thats where my TDi is going!!

I'll get them to put it in writing 1st!!

That doesn't seem too bad, but if it was me, I really wouldn't of paid them the extra costs.

I'm in a similar situation to you JD09, car has FASH upto now, just pondering whether or not to continue it, I do still think it does help with the resale.
Will probably do as mentioned do some intrim services to get the stamps :) Then do rest myself or VAG specialist.

That's brilliant another Audi scam. Fixed price servicing, but whoops we did a full service, sorry, hand over the extra dosh please we've cocked it up again. I bet they do it to every idiot that thinks FASH is worth something on an 8 year old car. You couldn't make it up!
