When should you change the water pump on the s3?

When having the cambelt changed, it's recommended to do the water pump at the same time whilst everything is off. Think the water pump is only around £40, so make sense to do it.

useless audi!, they change the cambelt, but dont do the water pump, smart of them ay, cambelt was done due to the age not the mileage. its on 52k at the moment.

Yer Audi do a cambelt pack that doesn't include the water pump or a few other belts that need doing, I had to ask for those which took the off at the time from around 300 to around 500!! A while later I had issues with my brake which was down to the cambelt change and them not putting everything back as it should have been!
That was a year ago now, would probably get it done at a specialist now as it's cheaper and more reliable!

i had my waterpump changed at 80k when my cambelt was getting done. The waterpump failed on my last car at 138k.
jdas can i ask what happened to your brakes that were caused by the cambelt/waterpump being changed?

Yer waterpump should be done at the same time, as others have said it's cheaper as to get to the water pump requires pretty much the same work as I believe it's in a very tricky place so the man hours to do it are quite significant!
As for my brakes, I suffered brake failure a while after the cambelt change, what had happened is the brake line was not set back correctly and was rubbing on another pipe, eventually it tore the brake line and caused me to have no brakes coming up to a junction!
Audi were very good about it and offered me some kind of compensation for it, but it's shaken my trust. Before I would have always gone to the dealers as I believed they would do the best job. Everyone makes mistakes but it scared the hell out of me! So I probably will use a specialist in the future!
