Is the coolant temp sensor plug the same as the coolant temp sender?

Just got a coolant temp sensor to replace my sensor, but its invoiced as a coolant temp sender? is it the same plug but can be used in both the temp sensor and sendor connection?

yes its the same item, theres only two it could be, the other is a level sensor which comes with the entire bottle

i think if the car is pre 2000 the sensor should have a square plug and post 2000 are square one side and oval the other, not exactly what you asked i know, but worth knowing if the plug looks different when you come to fit it!!

I got it from audi so all is a ok. Its the correct plug
