Re: Brake Fluid Change

I had mine done at the local stealers along with the service and they charged me 30 notes for it plus the VAT.

Don't know if this was only 'cause it was done along with the service though.

Anybody ever tried this themselves? I have never bled brakes before, and if it's not all that hard, I want to try. Any advice is appreciated!

Re: Brake Fluid Change

Not a difficult job but a real pain in the ass unless you have a cooperative second pair of hands, the ability to get all 4 wheels off similtaneously and a pressure bleeder.

I do most things on my car - but this job is worthy of paying for..

Re: Brake Fluid Change

What about how much fluid it usually takes? Anybody know off-hand?

*EDIT* oops, sorry guys, I forgot this was in the A3/S3 forum. I'll look over in the A4 forum unless anybody here knows how much for an A4.

Re: Brake Fluid Change

well the fluid is hydroscopic and so will absorb moisture but I'm not sure how much would really get into the system. It certainly would be bad if you boiled it, it would make braking fun.

Re: Brake Fluid Change

Braking system would hold less than half a litre most is contained in the master cylinder.
As the brake fluid absorbs moisture so its boiling point drops, which increases the chances of brake fade.
