Brake Fluid Change

Am due this next month and its the first real service type thing Im gonna have had done and was wondering what kinda prices to expect to pay for it ??

Dealer ?
Specialist ?

Will prob go to dealer as there arent many speacialists within spitting distance of me
also poss need spark plugs changing - what will the dealer charge for this ?

I had mine done at the local stealers along with the service and they charged me 30 notes for it plus the VAT.

Don't know if this was only 'cause it was done along with the service though.

Seriously? my mate who works at porsche did mine. Took about half hour. He said that porsche charge about £90 for BFC????

Not a difficult job but a real pain in the *** unless you have a cooperative second pair of hands, the ability to get all 4 wheels off similtaneously and a pressure bleeder.

I do most things on my car - but this job is worthy of paying for..

What about how much fluid it usually takes? Anybody know off-hand?

ive never changed the brake fluid in any of my cars does it make a difference, last car ran with same brake fluid for 10 years, only new it got was when i overhauled the brakes front and rear.

well the fluid is hydroscopic and so will absorb moisture but I'm not sure how much would really get into the system. It certainly would be bad if you boiled it, it would make braking fun.

Braking system would hold less than half a litre most is contained in the master cylinder.
As the brake fluid absorbs moisture so its boiling point drops, which increases the chances of brake fade.
